Abstract: A method for providing help services in a graphical user interface-based computer application includes providing a first display portion and a second display portion. The first display portion provides standard application services and the second display portion provides dedicated help services based on the standard application services provided in the first display portion. The method also includes determining a user interaction via the first display portion, and, based on the user interaction, providing a standard application service associated with the computer application in the first display portion. Furthermore, the method includes providing dedicated help services in the second display portion based on the standard application service provided in the first display portion.

Abstract: Systems and methods for managing interaction with a presentation of a tree structure in a graphical user interface are provided. Briefly described, one such method comprises the steps of: displaying a tree structure on a first portion of a graphical user interface; receiving a search request for an object in the tree structure having a predefined value via a second portion of the graphical user interface; displaying a search result in a third portion of the graphical user interface, the search result comprising one or more locations that satisfy the search request; and in response to selection of one of the locations, modifying the tree structure to display the selected location of the object having the predefined value.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for allowing a user to acquire and record information from the Internet may comprise a user interface that allows the user to identify at least one information service on the Internet that provides desired information and to select a desired completion time. A scheduler operatively associated with the user interface calculates a launch time to allow the desired information to be downloaded and recorded in its entirety before the desired completion time. A recording dispatcher operatively associated with the scheduler and the user interface begins downloading at the launch time the desired information from the information service. A recorder operatively associated with the recording dispatcher records the desired information to a recording medium.

Abstract: A system and method for automatically creating user-customized compact discs (CDs) containing multimedia tracks available over the Internet is presented. CD creation software resident on the user's computer or that is downloaded from a web site that contains managed multimedia content is launched from an Internet browser. The CD creation software allows the user to select desired tracks from a list of multimedia tracks available from the managed web site. The selected tracks are downloaded from the web site and recorded onto a portable CD at the user's request, or automatically per a user-specified schedule.

A boundary between a recorded area and an unrecorded area on the compact disc is visible through the window area. The adjacent scales indicate recorded time, remaining time, recorded data in megabytes or remaining capacity in megabytes.

Abstract: A system and method for automatically archiving data from a computer system to a backup system. The system provides a scheduler, connected to an automated backup mechanism, for scheduling when full backups are performed and when incremental backups are performed. A simple user interface is provided to ensure that once the end user has enabled the system, daily automatic backups will be performed without further input from the end user.
