  • Patent number: 7674568
Abstract: The present invention relates to a new solvent composition useful in the process of manufacturing an optical recording medium. The invention provides a new liquid composition comprising from 0.1 to 20% by weight of a dye having a solid state absorption band maximum in the spectral region from 300 to 800 nm, from 0.5 to 99.9% by weight of a compound of formula (I), wherein R1 to R8 are H, CH3 or C2H5, with the proviso that the total number of carbon atoms in R1 to R8 is 0, 1 or 2, and optionally from 0 to 99.4% by weight of one or more further components, all based on the weight of the solution. The instant solvent composition enables to manufacture an optical recording medium of a single recording layer type capable of recording and playing a large volume of information using commercially available compact disc recorders and players and of superior performance in an amazing wide range of drive speeds.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 21, 2003
Date of Patent: March 9, 2010
    Assignee: Ciba Specialty Chemicals Corporation
Inventors: Bruce Milner, Jitka Brynjolffssen, Timothy Parks, Wolfgang Freitag

  • Publication number: 20050163884
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of producing a malt beverage by adding thereto during the process an effective amount of a sugar polymer. It is also directed to the product produced thereby. Another embodiment is directed to a process of purifying a product, such as polydextrose having a glucose impurity by dissolving the product in water and adding yeast thereto, fermenting under conditions effective to convert the glucose to carbon dioxide and ethanol and separating the compound from the carbon dioxide and ethanol.
    Type: Application
    Filed: March 23, 2005
    Publication date: July 28, 2005
    Inventors: Pankaj Shah, Bruce Milner

  • Patent number: 4945015
Abstract: An intumescent material comprises expandible graphite in a polymeric binder. The binder may be a flexible or elastomeric binder or a formaldehyde resin. A suitable flexible binder is a polymer selected from vinyl acetate polymers, styrene polymers, vinyl chloride polymers, acrylic polymers, vinyl butyral polymers, melamine/urea/phenol formaldehyde resins, polyesters and phenolic resins. A suitable elastomeric binder is a rubber. A suitable formaldehyde resin is melamine formaldehyde resin, urea formaldehyde resin, phenol formaldehyde resin or resorcinol formaldehyde resin.

  • Patent number: 4795776
Abstract: A plastic composition which at least when hardened is resistant to fire comprises: a binder comprising a flexible film-forming adhesive polymer, such as polyvinylbutyral, in a volatile solvent, preferably a non-flammable volatile solvent such as trichloroethane, the binder having dispersed therein a fire retardant such as aluminium trihydrate, an exfoliatable mineral, such as vermiculite, and preferably also a thioxotripic agent such as precipitated silica.
