Patent number: 10641035Abstract: A glazing system that facilitates protecting windows from damage caused by high winds. The glazing system, for use with windows in doors, transoms, and in windows adjacent to doorways is an extruded polymeric frame that surrounds and supports and seals the window in place. The frame includes a stacked screw boss accessible from the exterior after removing a lineal cap. The screw boss receives screws use to hold a panel in place over the window during high winds to protect the window and which panel may be easily and quickly removed when the high winds pass. The interior side of the frame also has a screw path usable for attaching brackets for blinds to the back of the frame.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2017Date of Patent: May 5, 2020Assignee: Hawkes Design and Consulting, LLCInventors: Bruce A. Weber, Henry M. Hay

Publication number: 20140326126Abstract: A novel impact and blast resistant window is presented. A surface of a glazing pane has a durable transparent polymer film coated or adhered thereto. The surface of the window pane having the film is sealed to the sash by double sided tape. The resulting window produces an unexpected ability for the durable transparent polymer film to retain pieces of broken glass driven toward the interior of the building by a missile striking an exterior of the window, without the durable transparent polymer film pulling loose from the window sash.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 18, 2014Publication date: November 6, 2014Inventors: Henry M. Hay, III, Craig B. Duncan, Bruce A. Weber

Patent number: 8863452Abstract: A storm trim for holding a panel over a window for protection against impact of objects carried by wind during a storm. The storm trim includes a lineal cap and a lineal base. The base may be used with a window frame, incorporated into a window frame or be used in glazing surrounds or shutters. The base carries a stacked screw boss to receive and securely hold the anchoring screws that are needed to hold the panel over the window. The anchoring screws do not extend through the lineal base but remain within it. When the storm trim is not in use, the cap covers the lineal base.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2013Date of Patent: October 21, 2014Assignee: Hawkes Design & Consulting, LLCInventors: Henry M. Publication number: 20090241421Abstract: A window system for installation in a structure is provided. The window system includes a front side that faces away from the structure and a back side that faces into the structure when the window system is installed in a structure. The window system further includes at least one window pane having a front side that faces away from the structure and a back side that faces into the structure when the window system is installed in a structure; at least one sash that surrounds the at least one window pane, wherein the sash has a front side that faces away from the structure and a back side that faces into the structure when the window system is installed in a structure; at least one window frame comprising at least one head, sill, and jamb; and at least one mounting base integral to the window.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 28, 2008Publication date: October 1, 2009Applicant: The Muhler CompanyInventors: Henry M. Hay, III, Bruce A. Weber

Patent number: 5163951Abstract: A mesh composite graft including an inner component, an outer component formed from strands of durable material, such as polyethylene terephthalate, and an intermediate component made from strands of biocompatible synthetic material having a melting point less than that of the durable material from which the outer component is formed and less than that of the biocompatible synthetic material from which the inner component of the graft is formed. By heating the graft to a temperature greater than the melting point of the material from which the intermediate component is formed but less than the melting point of the outer component material and less than the melting point of the material from which the inner component is formed, the components are bound by the melted intermediate component to provide a totally porous, compliant composite graft reinforced by the outer component.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1992Date of Patent: November 17, 1992Assignee: Corvita CorporationInventors: Leonard Pinchuk, John B. Martin, Jr., Bruce A. Weber

Patent number: 5020111Abstract: An optical correlation method and apparatus recognizes and locates specific patterns in a scene based on the spatial symmetries associated with that pattern. An input scene is divided into two identical scenes, one of which plays the role of the input scene and the other the role of the filter scene. The filter image is passed through a spatial operator before being sent, along with the input image, to a real-time correlator. The real-time output from the correlator is compared to the input scene. Bright spots or regions in the correlation image represent objects with symmetry. This technique does not depend on comparison of the received image with a standard or stored image, consequently, it overcomes the traditional handicap of sensitivity to both the aspect and range of the viewer.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1988Date of Patent: May 28, 1991Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventor: Bruce A.
