  • Publication number: 20030128875
Abstract: An image capture device electronically captures and selects a desired text portion. A visible light image is projected onto text on a document to enable a user to position the light image relative to the desired text portion. At least some of the text is captured in accordance with a position of the light image. A text selector selects the desired text portion from the captured text.

  • Publication number: 20030118391
Abstract: A writing implement 1 includes a sensor 11 and control circuitry 13 so that when the writing implement is brought into close proximity with the input screen of an electronic device, the input screen being of the type that requires an input stylus, the writing tip 3 of the writing implement 1 is prevented from delivering ink to the input screen. This may be achieved by retracting the writing tip within the body of the writing implement, or by extending a stylus tip 20 beyond the writing tip 3 by the means of preventing ink being delivered to the input screen include a mechanism to disengage a ink reservoir 5 from the writing tip 3 of the writing implement 1 and, in the case of a ball-point pen type writing tip 3, having means such as electromagnets 26 arranged to prevent rotation of an ink delivery ball 22 on actuation of the electromagnets.

  • Patent number: 6563563
Abstract: A printer 802 is adapted to produce a printed image with an associated sound passage stored on an electronic storage device. The printer 802 comprises an information input for receiving information to define a visual image and also information defining a passage of sound. The printer has a printer element 808 for printing the first information as a printed image 804, but also has a writing element 807 for writing the sound information into an electronic storage device 803 adapted for attachment to the printed image. An appropriate mechanism 805 for attaching the electronic storage device to the printer image is provided at the printer.

  • Publication number: 20020139790
Abstract: A temperature sensor for measuring a temperature of a substrate in a thermal processing chamber is described. The chamber includes a reflector forming a reflecting cavity with a substrate when the substrate is positioned in the chamber. The temperature sensor includes a probe having an input end positioned to receive radiation from the reflecting cavity, and a detector optically coupled to an output end of the probe. The radiation entering the probe includes reflected radiation and non-reflected radiation. The detector measures an intensity of a first portion of the radiation entering the probe to generate a first intensity signal and measures an intensity of a second portion of the radiation entering the probe to generate a second intensity signal. The detector is configured so that a ratio of the reflected radiation to the non-reflected radiation is higher in the first portion than the second portion. The two intensity signals are used to calculate the temperature and emissivity of the substrate.

  • Publication number: 20020004667
Abstract: The present invention is a collapsible blood filter for use during a vascular procedure, such as angioplasty or stent deployment. A filter made of braided filaments is located on the distal end of a delivery member, and the filter is deployed downstream of the vascular treatment site to capture emboli released during and immediately after the procedure. Optimal braid geometry of the filter ensures that captured emboli will be retained during collapse and removal of the filter following the procedure.

  • Patent number: 6228073
Abstract: A hub for connecting a medical catheter in fluid communication with a medical device, such as a syringe, includes a tubular shaped body member which has an outer surface that is formed with a plurality of grips. The hub also has a pair or diametrically opposed wings which extend from the outer surface of the body member and it has a proximal end which is formed as a female luer fitting for engagement with the medical device. The distal end of the hub is formed with a spiral strain relief element having a passageway which receives the proximal end of the medical catheter. In operation, the spiral relief element supports the medical catheter and prevents kinking of the catheter near the hub during flexure of the catheter by providing for a progressive transition from the relative rigidity of the hub to the flexure required by the catheter.

  • Patent number: 5944727
Abstract: A stent/graft catheter delivery handle comprising a housing and a trigger pivotally connected to the housing on one end of the trigger. Squeezing the free end of the trigger towards the handle housing shifts a pawl, which is engaged with grooves on the outer surface of a stent/graft delivery catheter, longitudinally along the length of the catheter. Shifting of the pawl has the effect of retracting the sheath of the catheter relative to the plunger (inner lumen assembly) of the catheter and thus deploying a stent/graft stored in a proximal end of the catheter.

  • Patent number: 5708866
Abstract: A camera intended to be used with a multiple flash bulb unit selects an unused flash bulb farthest from the taking lens to reduce a red-eye effect when a near range camera-to-subject distance is chosen and selects an unused flash bulb closest to the taking lens when a far range camera-to-subject distance is selected.

  • Patent number: 5647824
Abstract: A waist belt for weight lifting incorporates a strap ratchet and nylon strap for tightening the belt. The waist belt includes a heavy leather belt and a nylon strap, both with first and second ends. The strap ratchet is secured on the belt loop near the first end of the belt. The first end of the nylon strap is attached to the strap ratchet. The nylon strap is sewn to the belt until a quarter of the leather belt remains at the second end of the belt. The second end of the nylon strap hangs free at the second end of the leather belt. The second end of the leather belt is placed through the middle of the belt loop, gripping support loops as necessary. The second end of the nylon strap is placed through the strap ratchet nylon strap tightening mechanism. The belt is now tightened by gripping the strap ratchet's handle and ratcheting by hand for desired tightness. Belt is quickly unbuckled by pulling up and holding strap ratchet's nylon strap release mechanism and pulling fully open strap ratchet's handle.

  • Patent number: 5364186
Abstract: A blackbody high temperature probe is formed by thermally fusing a coating of composite ceramic material on the tip of a high temperature lightpipe or fiber. The ceramic coating replaces conventional sputtered metallic thin films to form a blackbody optical cavity. The ingredients of the composite ceramic material include a mixture of refractory metal oxides forming the bulk of the material, various pigments and/or refractory metal powders, and binding agents. A firing process is used to thermally fuse the coating onto the lightpipe. Embodiments of the firing process include using a flame or furnace technique, or alternatively using various flame- or plasma- spraying techniques.
