Abstract: Embodiments are directed towards providing a user of a remote device access to the capabilities of an imaging device by employing preview images. An image of a document may be generated at the imaging device, wherein the imaging device is enabled to print, fax, project, display, or otherwise present a representation of the image. A preview image of the image may be generated at the imaging device. The preview image may be provided to the remote control device. The preview image may be displayed at the remote device. Available imaging device commands, based on an attribute of the document may be provided to and displayed at the remote device. A user of the remote device may be enabled to selectively activate an available imaging device command. An imaging device command activated at the remote device may be provided to the imaging device. The imaging device may perform the provided imaging device command. The image may be updated.
