  • Publication number: 20020143934
Abstract: A system and method for implementing an integrated information system are provided. A premises server is in communication with a variety of information sources that produce monitoring data for a premises. The premises server collects, presents, and transmits the monitoring device data to a central server capable of processing data from multiple premises servers. The central server receives the data and traverses one or more logical rule sets to determine whether the inputted data violates the rules. Based on an evaluation of the rules, the central server generates outputs in the form of communication to one or more authorized users via a variety of communication mediums and devices and/or the instigation of a variety of acts corresponding to the evaluation of the rules.

  • Publication number: 20020143923
Abstract: A system and method for managing a distributed data processing network are provided. A distributed network environment is configured such that monitoring and control devices are associated with device servers in a secure subnet. Each device server connects with a premises server. According to the present invention, a client computing device utilizing a WWW browser employs a communication protocol to pass commands to device servers and devices through the premises server. In another aspect of the present invention, a distributed computing environment allows multiple device servers to cumulatively process data collected from cameras, sensors, and other attached devices and provide a common computing platform and user interface.

  • Publication number: 20020138273
Abstract: Methods and/or systems/apparatus using speech for marking and subsequently identifying one or more items having electronically-readable identifiers respectively marked thereon comprise the following steps and/or perform the following operations. First, at least a portion of the electronically-readable identifier marked on an item is inputted. A user then inputs a spoken utterance that corresponds to the item. Next, the electronically-readable identifier inputted from the item is associated with the spoken utterance input from the user. Thus, when the electronically-readable identifier is inputted a next time, the spoken utterance associated with the electronically-readable identifier may be outputted. The present invention may also be embodied as an article of manufacture comprising a machine readable medium containing one or more programs which when executed implement the steps/operations of the invention.

  • Publication number: 20020095490
Abstract: A system and method for implementing a configurable security monitor utilizing an integrated information portal are provided. A premises server is in communication with a variety of information sources that produce monitoring data for a defined monitoring target, such as a premises. The premises server transmits the monitoring data to a central server that receives the data and traverses one or more logical rule sets to determine whether the inputted data violates the rules. The rules are generally specified by a user, such as a system administrator to define the level of monitoring desired and an appropriate response in the evaluation of the monitoring data against the rule.

  • Publication number: 20020075307
Abstract: A graphical user interface is used for the dynamic management of remote devices. In a Web-based computing environment, browsers are used to remotely access data from devices attached to computer systems. Through the graphical interface displayed on a monitor, the user interacts dynamically with the remote device. That is, the actions of the user within the means of the graphical user interface effect actions, changes, and updates in the remote hardware as if it were a local resource.

  • Publication number: 20020068984
Abstract: A system and method for implementing open-protocol remote device control are provided. A user accesses a common user interface for controlling one or more networked devices. Utilizing the interface, the user selects one or more actions. The selection is encoded in a standard protocol and transmitted to a premises server. The premises server obtains the selection, accesses a device interface database and translates the selection into a device-specific protocol. The translated instruction is transmitted to the selected device for implementation. The user interface then obtains any device return data for display on the user interface.

  • Patent number: 5861299
Abstract: Proteinaceous products can be produced by transgenic animals having genetic constructs integrated into their genome. The construct comprises a 5'-flanking sequence from a mammalian milk protein gene (such as beta-lactoglobulin) and DNA coding for a heterologous protein other than the milk protein (for example a serin protease such as alpha.sub.1 -antitrypsin or a blood factor such as Factor VIII or IX). The protein-coding DNA comprises at least one, but not all, of the introns naturally occurring in a gene coding for the heterologous protein. • Patent number: 5506646
Abstract: A method of test firing an electronic flash in a camera during manufacturing assembly of the camera, in which the flash capacitor is pre-charged to an intermediate voltage level which is insufficient to test fire the flash using an external power supply. According to the present invention, the flash capacitor is then fully-charged to a level which is sufficient to test fire the flash, using the battery contained for the camera, and the flash is test fired. According to a preferred embodiment, the flash assembly is mounted within a camera body, and a front cover covers the flash. A set of holes in the front cover are accessible to allow fast charging of the flash capacitor during assembly of the camera.

  • Patent number: 4116275
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for recovering hydrocarbons from a hydrocarbon-bearing formation. A wellbore is drilled to penetrate the formation and to extend, preferably substantially horizontally, into the formation for a suitable distance. The well is completed with a slotted or perforated casing means and with dual concentric tubing strings. The tubing strings comprise an inner tubing and a surrounding larger diameter outer tubing. The inner tubing cooperates with the outer tubing to form a first annular space and the outer tubing cooperates with the casing means to form a second annular space. After the wellbore is suitably completed, a heated fluid is circulated within the casing means such that the heated fluid passes through a portion of the first annular space to heat the well and to provide a fluid flow path through both the first and second annular spaces. After the well is suitably heated, a heated fluid is injected into the formation through at least a portion of the second annular space.
