    Abstract: As the acuity level of a patient being monitored on a wireless system changes, the criticality of that patient's data arriving at its intended destination changes. For example, if a patient being monitored for potentially life threatening arrhythmias begins to decline in health while being monitored on a less reliable wireless system, the wireless monitor switches to a more reliable wireless system to ensure delivery of critical patient data. Allowing a patient monitor to switch between wireless infrastructures based on patient acuity limits the number of users operating on the higher cost wireless infrastructure.

The central processing unit is configured to alter the alarm limits for at least one of the physiological parameters in response to the activation of the analytics engine to reduce clinically irrelevant alarms.

    Abstract: A method of prioritizing arrhythmia alarms based on one patient's perfusion level includes receiving arterial blood pressure, electrocardiogram heart rate, and arterial pulse rate values of the one patient during a same time window. Analyzing the set of blood pressure values to determine if an arrhythmia event is indicated, where if an arrhythmia event is indicated, the method includes calculating a systolic blood pressure (SBP) ratio, comparing the SBP ratio to a first predetermined threshold, and if the SBP ratio is less than or equal to the first predetermined threshold, then activating a non-perfusion alarm. If the SBP ratio is greater than the first predetermined threshold, then calculating a standard deviation of a rate differential between the heart rate and the pulse rate values, and if the standard deviation is greater than a second predetermined threshold, then activating the non-perfusion alarm. A system and non-transitory computer media is also presented.

    Abstract: A patient monitoring system and method is disclosed herein. The system includes one or more patient monitors that obtain physiological data from a patient. Based upon the physiological data obtained from the patient, as well as the information available for the patient in an electronic health record, an algorithm selection device determines which one of a plurality of early warning algorithms are best suited for use in monitoring a patient. One or more early warning algorithms can be presented to a user for selection. Once the algorithm selection device or the user determines which of a plurality of early warning algorithms would be most effective, the early warning algorithm is downloaded to the patient monitor for use by the patient monitor. The patient monitor utilizes the downloaded early warning algorithm to generate alarms and alerts to indicate the health status of the patient being monitored.
