Publication number: 20150142436Abstract: The present invention allows feedback from operator workstations to be used to update databases used for providing automated information services. When an automated process fails, recorded speech of the caller is passed on to the operator for decision making. Based on the selections made by the operator in light of the speech or other interactions with the caller, a comparison is made between the speech and the selections made by the operator to arrive at information to update the databases in the information services automation system. Thus, when the operator inputs the words corresponding to the speech provided at the information services automation system, the speech may be associated with those words. The association between the speech and the words may be used to update different databases in the information services automation system.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 30, 2015Publication date: May 21, 2015Inventors: Bruce Bokish, Michael Craig Presnell

Publication number: 20140146670Abstract: The present invention allows communicating devices to control the amount of compression used in packet sessions for transmitting streaming media to and from each other. When a communicating device detects a decrease in performance or quality of service indicative of a limited bandwidth condition, the amount of compression for the current or subsequent sessions is temporarily increased to allow the currently available bandwidth to support the session or subsequent sessions. After a set period of time, or when the limited bandwidth condition is removed, communications associated with the sessions can revert back to transporting uncompressed data or reducing the amount of compression for the sessions, thus using more of the available bandwidth.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 31, 2014Publication date: May 29, 2014Applicant: Rockstar Consortium US LPInventors: Bruce Bokish, Donald Spillane, Michael Presnell

Patent number: 7269417Abstract: The present invention relates to an information services system wherein requesters can call in to the information services system, request information, and additionally, subscribe to receive updates or alerts that are pertinent to the requested information. Accordingly, a single request for information by a requestor can trigger the receipt of periodic updates and alerts without requiring subsequent requests.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 2003Date of Patent: September 11, 2007Assignee: Nortel Networks LimitedInventor: Bruce Bokish

Patent number: 7254407Abstract: The present invention provides an information services system and method for providing information services, wherein a pointer is provided in response to a request for information from the user. The pointer provides an addressable location at which the requested information may be accessed by the telephony terminal from which the information request was generated. The information may be accessed through a traditional browser or downloaded using a file transfer application. Since a pointer instead of the actual information is provided in response to the information request, limited-capacity messaging techniques can be used to transmit the pointer to the telephony terminal. Based on the capabilities of the applications running on the telephony terminal, the requested information may include any combination of text, graphics, audio, video, pictures, and the like, wherein the relative size of the information requested is only limited by the capabilities of those applications and of the communication medium.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2003Date of Patent: August 7, 2007Assignee: Nortel Networks LimitedInventor: Bruce Bokish

Publication number: 20040189698Abstract: The present invention relates to facilitating instant messaging with an information service bureau, such as an operator or information service bureau or customer support center that has multiple information agents capable of responding to instant messages sent to a common address associated with the information service bureau. The incoming instant messages are received from users at a central location and routed to an appropriate information agent, preferably after being queued and upon an information agent becoming available. Any necessary address translation to forward the instant message to the appropriate information agent is provided at the central location. Responses to the instant message can be sent back through the central location or directly to the user; however, the instant message responses are either created or modified such that they appear to the user as coming from the central address, and not from the address of the particular servicing information agent.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 26, 2003Publication date: September 30, 2004Applicant: NORTEL NETWORKS LIMITEDInventor: Bruce Bokish
