  • Publication number: 20090227142
Abstract: This disclosure provides for articulation networks that result in a wider and flatter articulation range throughout the audio spectrum. Articulation networks are disclosed herein for providing a desirable articulation response profile through a gang of networks that maintain a substantially constant Q throughout the audio spectrum. A constant Q is desirable because the music/speech will not possess non-linear peaks in presence or non-linear shifts of the timbre. The articulation networks may be disposed within a networked connector.

  • Publication number: 20070262668
Abstract: Disclosed herein are magnetic bearings, armatures for magnetic bearings, and methods for their production. In one embodiment, an armature is disclosed. The armature comprises a stack, having a first end and a second end, of insulating layers and coated plates disposed adjacent one another. A first compression collar is disposed at the first end, a second compression collar is disposed at the second end, and a shaft is disposed through the first and second compression collars and the stack. The coated plates comprise core plates having a coating disposed thereon, wherein the coating comprises a material selected from the group consisting of a metal, a metal alloy, a metal oxide, an intermetallic compound, a multi-phase alloy, a solid solution, and combinations comprising at least one of the foregoing. In addition, magnetic bearings and methods for assembling armatures are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20070248452
Abstract: An abradable structure is provided on an inner face of a stationary component of the rotary machine or on a rotating component. During operation of the rotary machine, operating fluid pressure biases the stationary component against the rotating component, allowing minimal clearances to be maintained between the rotating component and the stationary component resulting in reduced fluid leakage and increased efficiency of the rotary machine. During start-up, shut down, or other transient conditions of the machine, a retractable mechanism biases the stationary component away from the rotating component ensuring preservation of a plurality of teeth provided on the stationary component or the rotating component.

  • Publication number: 20070228664
Abstract: A mechanical seal includes a pair of opposing seal faces, wherein at least one of the pair of seal faces comprises a multilayer coating disposed on a substrate, and wherein the multilayer coating comprises a periodic repetition of distinct layers. In another embodiment, the mechanical seal includes a pair of opposing seal faces, wherein at least one of the pair of seal faces comprises a multilayer coating disposed on a substrate, wherein the multilayer coating comprises a plurality of layers of a composite, and wherein no two adjacent layers of the composite comprise an identical ratio of composite constituents. A method includes disposing a multilayer coating on a substrate to form at least one of a pair of opposing seal faces of a mechanical seal.

  • Patent number: 7242780
Abstract: A network for altering the audio output of a system which comprises at least one series RC or RLC circuit coupled between the positive and ground conductor of a cable that is suitable for connecting an electrical musical instrument, or similar source, to an amplifier or other load. The components of the RC or RLC circuit are selected by determining the frequency at which the positive conductor's natural phase angle is 45°. Each of the RC or RLC circuits is selected to have a phase angle of ?45° at a frequency equal to or different from the frequency at which the positive conductor has a phase angle of 45° depending upon the audio effect desired. In addition, the component values of the circuits are selected such that the measured impedance of the network at all frequencies in a predetermined frequency range is equal to or greater than 0.20 M?, and the overall combined capacitance of the cable and the capacitance and/or inductance of the network does not cause the effect of audible “roll-off” in the system.

  • Publication number: 20070132193
Abstract: A method for operating a compliant abradable sealing system includes biasing a radially movable sealing element to contact a mating radially fixed sealing element. The radially fixed sealing element is rotated relative to the radially movable sealing element. The radially fixed sealing element is provided on a rotor. The radially movable sealing element is provided in a stator housing. The radial movement of the movable sealing element is limited by a stopping device provided between the movable sealing element and the stator housing. A plurality of permanent sealing grooves are formed in the radially movable sealing element to form a zero-clearance labyrinth seal.

The components of the RC or RLC circuit are selected by determining the frequency at which the positive conductor's natural phase angle is 45°. Each of the RC or RLC circuits is selected to have a phase angle of −45° at a frequency equal to or different from the frequency at which the positive conductor has a phase angle of 45° depending upon the audio effect desired. In addition, the component values of the circuits are selected such that the measured impedance of the network at all frequencies in a predetermined frequency range is equal to or greater than 0.
