  • Patent number: 6712627
Abstract: An ejection assembly for ejecting a modem from a wireless communication device is provided. The wireless communication device provides communication capability for a personal data assistant. In one embodiment of the present invention, the ejection assembly includes both an ejector sleeve which holds a variety of modems and a lever arm. The ejector sleeve couples the modem with the wireless communication device to establish connectivity between the wireless communication device and the modem. The ejector sleeve also decouples the modem with the wireless communication device and ejects the modem from the wireless communication device. The modem decouples and ejects from the wireless communication device when a user pushes the ejector sleeve into the wireless communication device, thereby rotating the lever arm. The rotation of the lever arm decouples the modem and ejects the modem from the wireless communication device.

  • Publication number: 20020137543
Abstract: A communication device for providing wireless communication to a personal data assistant is provided. The communication device includes both a serial port connector and clips to hold the personal data assistant to the communication device. The communication device also includes a modem and a pass-through serial connector. The modem provides wireless communication to both the communication device and the personal data assistant when the personal data assistant engages with the communication device. The pass-through serial connector provides multi-functional capability to the communication device, including simultaneous charging of both the communication device and the personal data assistant. Moreover, during simultaneous charging, the configuration of the pass-through serial connector allows hot-synching of the personal data assistant. The configuration of the pass-through serial connector also provides connectivity between a peripheral device and both the communication device and the personal data assistant.

  • Publication number: 20020107042
Abstract: A communication device for providing wireless communication for a personal data assistant in a compact package is provided. The communication device of the present invention includes a modem, an interface board and logic. The modem transmits and receives communications for the communication device. The interface board provides connectivity between the communication device and the personal data assistant, thereby allowing a user of the personal data assistant to transmit data using the modem of the communication device. The logic of the communication device periodically activates the modem to check for communications on a server. Furthermore, the communication device of the present invention includes a compact housing, thereby allowing the communication device to have a compact configuration.
