  • Patent number: 5006168
Abstract: Isopropyl alcohol is partially or completely replaced in an acid fountain solution for lithographic printing by a hydroxypropylcellulose or similar polymer with a molecular weight below 100,000 where a 30% by weight solution of the polymer has a viscosity below 4000 cps at 25.degree.. Printing quality is improved and scumming is controlled when a hydrogen peroxide degraded hydroxypropylcellulose or hydrophobically modified hydroxyethylcellulose replaces alcohol in a fountain solution.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 3, 1989
Date of Patent: April 9, 1991
    Assignee: Aqualon Company
Inventors: Jashawant J. Modi, Bruce E. Banyai
  • Patent number: 4948430
Abstract: A binder for agglomerating an ore in the presence of water, contains 10% to 90% of a water-soluble sodium carboxymethylhydroxyethylcellulose and 10% to 90% of sodium carbonate. A process comprises mixing a binder composition containing cellulose and sodium carbonate, water, and the ore, agglomerating the mixture into wet balls, drying the wet balls, and heating the resultant dry balls at a temperature of at least about 1204.degree. C. A preferred ore is taconite.

  • Patent number: 4919711
Abstract: A binder useful for agglomerating a concentrated ore material in the presence of water comprising (a) a water-soluble polymer selected from the group consisting of alkali metal salts of carboxymethyl celluylose or carboxymethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose and (b) sodium tripolyphosphate, a process for agglomerating the concentrated ore material using this binder, and the agglomerated product of this process, are disclosed.
