  • Patent number: 11247938
Abstract: The present invention provides, in various embodiments, compositions and methods for strengthening glass without heat or chemical processing of the glass itself. The compositions of the present invention are emulsions comprising polymer colloid particles that are functionalized with an organosilicon compound. The polymer colloid particles can fill surface defects in the glass due to their size being smaller than the surface defects, and the functional groups thereon can react with the surface of the glass to anchor the particles in the defects.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 8, 2018
Date of Patent: February 15, 2022
    Assignee: C-Bond Systems, LLC
Inventors: Erik K. Koep, Vince Pugliese, Bruce E. Rich, Andrew R. Barron
  • Patent number: 11155491
Abstract: Disclosed herein are a composition and one-step method of strengthening glass without heat or chemical processing of the glass itself, while also modifying the surface for improved surface properties. The multifunctional composition is a liquid that can be applied at room temperature and pressure as a topical coating on glass as well as other brittle materials.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 5, 2019
Date of Patent: October 26, 2021
    Assignee: C-Bond Systems, LLC
Inventors: Erik K. Koep, Jason M. Rothenberger, Carmen M. Fernandez-Posada, Vince Pugliese, Andrew R. Barron, Bruce E. Rich

  • Patent number: 10273347
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to the reinforcement, repair, and strengthening of materials through the application of innovative, nanoparticle-based compositions to substrate materials, including but not limited to glass and ceramic. In some embodiments, the present invention produces a strengthened laminate. The compositions of this invention accomplish such ends by employing nanoparticles and use other components that work with the nanoparticles to enable advanced multifunctional properties in treated materials. This invention also enhances the initial tack and adhesion properties of materials to polymer coatings, materials to film, materials to other materials, and film to film. At least one embodiment concerns an improved process for making the compositions.
