  • Patent number: 5188451
Abstract: An elongated jacketed discharge lamp uses an improved spacer end cap in the form of a one-piece body of thermally insulating material having an annular ring-shaped side portion and an annular disk-shaped end portion integrally-connected therewith. The annular side portion has an annular interior wall surface defining a central cavity receiving and frictionally engaging at least the periphery of an end base on an end of an envelope tube of the jacketed lamp. The annular side portion also has an annular groove formed therein receiving and seating one end of an outer sleeve which surrounds the envelope tube of the jacketed lamp. The groove is defined by an outer annular wall surface which surrounds and frictionally engages the exterior of the one end of the outer sleeve and an inner annular wall surface spaced radially inwardly from the interior of the end of the outer sleeve away from frictional engagement therewith.

  • Patent number: 4544998
Abstract: A rectangular or other polygonal shaped lamp, such as a headlamp, comprising a lens member sealed to a reflector member. The lens member is provided with a rearwardly projecting polygonal rim having a surface which fits against and is sealed to a front rim of the reflector unit. The reflector front rim is provided with frontwardly projecting positioning members near at least two diagonally opposite corners, which fit inside corresponding corners of the lens rim for aligning the lens and reflector members together during sealing.

  • Patent number: 4447862
Abstract: An adhesively sealed beam lamp unit including a lens and reflector preferably having substantially rectangular peripheries and cooperating and opposing sealing surfaces located approximately about the lens and reflector peripheries. Contact between the lens and reflector sealing surfaces is limited to one or more portions along the sides thereof. Additionally reservoirs, located adjacent to the sealing surfaces restrict excess adhesive from spreading onto areas affecting lamp unit optical performance, outer dimensions, and integrity.

  • Patent number: 4425606
Abstract: An adhesively sealed beam lamp unit including a lens and reflector having cooperating and opposing step-shaped sealing surfaces located approximately about the lens and reflector peripheries. Contact between the lens and reflector sealing surfaces is limited to one or more portions along the innermost pair of opposing steps. Additionally, reservoirs, located on either side of the sealing surfaces, restrict excess adhesive from spreading onto areas affecting lamp unit optical performance or outer dimensions.

  • Patent number: 4425607
Abstract: An adhesively sealed beam lamp unit including a lens and reflector having substantially rectangular peripheries and cooperating and opposing step-shaped sealing surfaces located approximately about the lens and reflector peripheries. Contact between the lens and reflector sealing surfaces is limited to one or more portions along the long sides of a pair of opposing steps. Additionally reservoirs, located on either side of the sealing surfaces, restrict excess adhesive from spreading onto areas affecting lamp unit optical performance or outer dimensions.

  • Patent number: 4356539
Abstract: This invention relates to polymer sealed beam headlamp units and more particularly to a mounting assembly for securing these headlamp units to vehicles. The assembly includes a headlamp having a plurality of mounting blocks integral with and mediately articulated from the reflector portion of the lamp envelope. The mounting blocks project outwardly from the exterior surface of the envelope and reference the lamp beam through the envelope reflector. The mounting blocks have openings for receiving and engaging fasteners therein for securing the headlamp to a vehicle. The fasteners are inserted in the blocks and adjusted relative thereto to referentially relate the lamp alignment to the vehicle. The fasteners are resiliently biased by buggy springs which at least partially surround the fastener. The non-attached head of the fastener is inserted within a slotted vehicle panel and is tensionally secured thereto by the buggy springs.

  • Patent number: 4322784
Abstract: This invention relates to polymer sealed beam headlamp units having trim rim reference planes integrally molded therewith. The headlamp includes a polymer envelope having a reference plane integrally molded with the reflector portion of the envelope which projects radially outward and forward therefrom for providing a precise reference plane forward of the lamp face.

  • Patent number: 4318161
Abstract: This invention relates to polymer sealed beam headlamp units having rims integral therewith, and more particularly to a unitary coupling assembly for securing these headlamp units to vehicles. The assembly includes an integrally rimmed headlamp having a plurality of couplers secured thereto. The couplers are integrally molded with the rim or attached thereto. The couplers have curved mating surfaces, centered about point for pivotal movement, which engage the surfaces of complementary couplers secured to a vehicle. The couplers are lockingly secured to each other and form a coupling for attaching the lamp to a vehicle. In a preferred embodiment the assembly employs adjustable couplers for the adjustable and/or preaimed attachment of a headlamp to a vehicle.
