Patent number: 7540599Abstract: Some embodiments of the present invention provide an inkjet printhead within which a removable ink cartridge can be installed. Upon installation, the ink cartridge can be coupled to one or more wicks in the printhead for establishing fluid communication between one or more chambers in the ink cartridge and nozzles through which ink exits the printhead during operation. The wick can extend from a cartridge receptacle to a substantially enclosed ink reservoir in order to transport ink from the removable cartridge to the ink reservoir.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2007Date of Patent: June 2, 2009Assignee: Lexmark International, Inc.Inventors: Curtis R. Droege, Bruce Gibson, Sam Norasak, Ann M. Trebolo, Kent L. Ubellacker

Publication number: 20070173032Abstract: In a silicon wafer two channels are etched in each street separated enough to bracket the saw. The channels may be shallow. The saw blade is positioned within the two channels so that the outer wall of each of the channels is beyond the outer edge of the saw. Cracks and the like caused by the saw terminate at the channels and so the adjoining chips are not injured. Damage of chips is reduced and the width of the streets is reduced.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 25, 2006Publication date: July 26, 2007Inventors: Bruce Gibson, Richard Moore

Publication number: 20070153045Abstract: Heater chips for use with a printing device, such as heater chips that include a first heater array, positioned substantially adjacent a first via, and a second heater array, positioned substantially adjacent a second via. The heater chip can also include a region, positioned between the first heater array and the second heater array, and a temperature sensing element operable to sense the temperature of the region, where the temperature sensing element is substantially centrally disposed with respect to the region. Additionally, the first heater array and the second heater array are operable to receive heating responsive to the temperature of the region sensed by the temperature sensing element to regulate the temperature of the region. According to one embodiment of the invention, the temperature sensing element comprises a temperature sensing resistor and the heating may occur via non-nucleating heating.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 30, 2005Publication date: July 5, 2007Inventors: Lucas Barkley, Bruce Gibson, Eric Hall, David King, George Parish

Upon installation, the ink cartridge can be coupled to one or more wicks in the printhead for establishing fluid communication between one or more chambers in the ink cartridge and nozzles through which ink exits the printhead during operation. The wick can extend from a cartridge receptacle to a filter in order to transport ink from the removable cartridge to the filter. In some embodiments, the wick is retained in place within the printhead by a cap, which can be coupled to one or more filter towers. The wick can have upstream and downstream interfaces that can be the same or different in shape and/or size.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2004Date of Patent: February 27, 2007Assignee: Lexmark International, Inc.Inventors: James D. Publication number: 20060125892Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a printhead having a chip feed extending between an ink reservoir and printhead nozzles, wherein the chip feed has an inlet, and outlet, and one or more projections or recesses in a transition surface of the chip feed. The transition surface and the projection or recess can be inclined with respect to the outlet of the chip feed, and in some cases can be curved to present a concave or convex shape toward the outlet of the chip feed.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 10, 2004Publication date: June 15, 2006Inventors: Jeffery Buchanan, Bruce Gibson, Steven Komplin

Publication number: 20060045649Abstract: A sealed attachment fastener assembly with a receiving member and a cap that can be inserted into an opening in a work piece and fixed therein from only one side of the work piece. A portion of the fastener assembly on the blind side of the work piece is collapsible into a flange. In addition, another portion of the fastener assembly is contemporaneously radially expandable within the opening of the work piece to at least rotationally secure the fastener assembly with respect to the work piece. The radial expansion will result in a high interference fit of the fastener in the work piece, which may enhance the fatigue of the installation. A cap completes the fastener assembly to substantially prevent fluid from leaking through the fastener assembly opening. The cap can be assembled with the receiving member after the internal threads within the receiving member have been machined.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 27, 2004Publication date: March 2, 2006Applicant: Fatigue Technology, Inc.Inventors: Timothy Johnson, Leonard Reid, Bruce Gibson
