    Abstract: A ceramic metal halide high pressure discharge lamp has an arc gap separating the discharge electrodes which is not more than 10 mm and a wall loading which is at least 50 W cm.sup.-2. The relatively small arc gap enables a relatively low operating voltage (in the range from 80V to 130V, say) to be used.
