  • Patent number: 8460139
Abstract: A belt installation guide is disclosed which accommodates the loading in a belt module of a new belt around drive rollers. The guide is placed opposite the end portions of the rollers, the belt is slipped over the guides and held by the guides until the belt is pushed over the rollers. The guides can be attached to the belt module or can be detachable therefrom. Once in place over the rollers, a tension is exerted on the belt to make it taut over all of the rollers. The guide is removed from near the rollers after the belt is in place over the rollers.

  • Patent number: 7587163
Abstract: This is a cleaning blade useful in an electrophotographic marking system. Under certain conditions, cleaning blades will tuck when the blade continuously contacts a photoconductive surface of this marking system. This tucking causes abrading and damage to the moving photoconductive surface. To prevent or minimize tucking, a blade stiffener is used in this invention in either an add-on or as a part of the originally-manufactured elastomeric blade.

  • Patent number: 7512367
Abstract: Embodiments herein comprise a printing apparatus having a media path and a printing engine along the media path. The printing engine comprises a back up roll having an outer surface and an inner surface, a bias roll adjacent the outer surface of the back up roll, a photoreceptor belt, and a transfer belt. The bias roll is positioned with respect to the back up roll to form a nip between the bias roll and the back up roll. A portion of the photoreceptor belt is in the nip between the bias roll and the back up roll, and a portion of the transfer belt is in the nip between the bias roll and the photoreceptor belt. A transducer (e.g., an ultrasonic piezoelectric device) is contacting the inner surface of the back up roll. The transducer is physically connected to the back up roll in a manner such that the transducer transfers vibrations to the back up roll and to the photoreceptor belt. For example, in one embodiment, the transducer contacts and is physically biased against the inner surface of the back up roll.

  • Patent number: 7471922
Abstract: Embodiments herein include a transfer assist blade that is adapted to bias media toward a marking device. The transfer assist blade has a plurality of movable blade segments that overlap one another. In one embodiment, a first movable blade segment (comprising a first wear layer and a first underlying layer beneath the first wear layer) overlies a second movable blade segment (comprising a second wear layer and a second underlying layer beneath the first wear layer). More specifically, in this embodiment, a portion of the first wear layer overlaps a portion of the second wear layer.

  • Publication number: 20080298858
Abstract: This is a structure useful in electrostatic marking systems that prevents a charge from contacting a photoreceptor in areas not covered by paper. An automatically movable cover is positioned between a corona device and the photoreceptor to prevent the charge emitted by the corona from damaging the unprotected areas of the photoreceptor. The movement and positioning of the shutter or cover is automatically calibrated by the width of paper being used. Since a plurality of paper widths can be used in an electrostatic marking system, various portions of the photoreceptor will be exposed. The entire determination to move the cover or shutter and to the extent positioned is automatically determined minimizing the possibility of error if manual positioning of the cover was used.

  • Patent number: 7457578
Abstract: There is disclosed a system for cleaning marking material from a surface portion of a movable photoconductive member. The system includes a first rotatable brush, a blade and a second rotatable brush arranged in sequential order along the movable photoconductive member. The first rotatable brush is for removing a first amount of marking material from the surface portion of the movable photoconductive member as the surface portion of the movable photoconductive member moves past said first rotatable electrostatic brush. The blade, in engaging contact with the movable photoconductive member, is for removing a second amount of marking material from the surface portion of the movable photoconductive member. The second rotatable brush, positioned in interference contact with the movable photoconductive member, is for removing substantially all residual marking material that was not removed by the first rotatable brush and the blade.

  • Patent number: 7433644
Abstract: A photoconductor belt cleaning system is described. This system can utilize in one embodiment one cleaning brush and a cleaning blade, and in a second embodiment, two cleaning brushes, brush 1 and brush 2, with a cleaning blade. In the second embodiment, the cleaning blade is located in the system before brush 2, and adjacent to brush 1. The brushes are charged in an opposite polarity to the charge of the toner to be removed from the photoconductor belt.

  • Patent number: 7420169
Abstract: Electrostatic printing processes utilize corona-charging units. When those units wear out or become faulty, they need to be replaced. This embodiment provides a tool that can be used to remove a faulty electrode wire assembly from the unit. This same tool when loaded with a new wire assembly can insert a new wire assembly into the emptied corona charging unit, sometimes referred to as a dicorotron unit. The tool, therefore, is used both to remove or insert a wire assembly from or into a dicorotron unit.
