  • Publication number: 20060129913
Abstract: A data cell included in a document supporting cell structured data is conditionally formatted according to data that is stored in a separate location from the document. A user is allowed to select from a drop-down menu of related data sets a particular data set for conditionally formatting the data cell. The data cell is formatted according to the data set and the condition without requiring that the data set be stored locally in the document.

  • Publication number: 20060074866
Abstract: A method of conditionally formatting a display of data is disclosed that involves providing a preliminary display automatically showing the intended consequences of the condition applied to the data prior to making the condition actually apply to the data. This is especially useful in analysis of spreadsheet data by conditionally formatting certain data. The method involves identifying one or more parameters of the data to be conditionally formatted on the display, selecting a predetermined condition; and automatically applying temporarily the predetermined condition to the parameter(s), displaying a temporary preview on the display of the predetermined condition applied to data that meet the predetermined condition. The method also provides the capability to preliminarily change the conditions and parameters applied to the data and automatically provide appropriate previews of the effect of such application of changed conditions on the displayed data.

  • Publication number: 20060069993
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention involve a method of concurrent processing of chain calculations using multiple processors each having a separate recalculation engine in a spreadsheet program. The operations basically include first determining a number of available processors, then allocating a recalculation engine to each available processor, distributing the formulas between the recalculation engines, and then concurrently evaluating the formulas distributed to each recalculation engine when a recalc operation is called for in the spreadsheet program.

  • Publication number: 20060053298
Abstract: The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for securing audio-based access to application data. A client sends and a server receives a request for audio-based access to application data. The server sends a first audio challenge for a user credential in response to the request. The client receives the first audio challenge and sends a user credential. The server receives the user credential and sends a second audio challenge. The second audio challenge is configured to be understandable to a user of the client but difficult to recognize using automated voice recognition techniques. The client receives the second audio challenge and sends an additional portion of data responsive to the second audio challenge. The server receives the additional portion of data and calculates a client authorization based on the received user credential and received additional portion of data.

  • Publication number: 20050174400
Abstract: An ink container has a housing having a chamber formed therein for receiving ink and a first surface containing an outlet passage communicating with the chamber and through which ink is selectively dispensed. An air impermeable, non-porous seal member is received in the outlet passage, and has raised portions on opposite sides of the member. A cap member is provided to compress the seal within the outlet passage to form a seal therein.

  • Publication number: 20040200641
Abstract: An apparatus and method for the movement of drilling equipment between topographically adjacent drilling locations comprises positioning a transportable planar surface over the adjacent drilling locations between which it is desired to move the equipment. Ports or other access areas extending through the planar surface to the drilling locations below are provided. The equipment to be moved is placed on top of the planar surface and is provided on its bottom with a low-drag surface which can slide across the planar surface. The equipment can be moved from one desired drilling location to another by sliding it between locations on top of the planar surface. When all of the drilling is completed, the equipment can be struck for transport and the planar surface disassembled and moved to a new drilling area. Various methods to move the equipment could be used.

  • Patent number: 6579324
Abstract: A method for using an indicator, known as “See Through View,” that allows a user to select a region on the display device and still see the visual attributes of the contents as they will appear when the region is deselected. When the user selects a region on the display device, the invention “shades” the background of the selected region. The contents within the selected region are left unchanged. Shading is accomplished by combining each original background base color with a selection shading color to produce a corresponding blended color, or colors. If the corresponding blended color is similar to the background base color, the blended color is either lightened or darkened, as needed to produce an adjusted blended color. Each blended color, or the adjusted blended color (as required) replaces the corresponding base background color within the selected region. The effect is that the selected region and background items appear “shaded.

  • Patent number: 6539495
Abstract: Coupling facility store-in cache structures are duplexed in order to improve data availability. That is, once duplexing is established, selective data is written to both a primary structure instance and a secondary structure instance. Thus, if one of the structure instances fails, then the other structure instance is used in order to prevent data from being lost. Duplexing can be started manually and/or automatically by the operating system. Further, a structure may be removed from duplex mode and enter simplex mode, if duplexing is not desired.

  • Patent number: 6438654
Abstract: Castout processing for duplexed data structures. A selective data item is written from a primary instance of a data structure to at least one storage medium. A determination is made as to whether the selective data item can be deleted from a secondary instance of the data structure. If the selective data item can be deleted, it is deleted from the secondary instance.

  • Patent number: 5704445
Abstract: A method of disabling a motor vehicle, comprising the steps of, firstly, providing an apparatus for disabling a motor vehicle which includes a plinth-like base small enough to fit in the palm of a person's hand. The base has a first substantially planar surface and a second substantially planar surface. At least one spike receiving aperture is provided in the first planar surface. At least one hollow tubular spike is removably secured in the at least one spike receiving aperture. The spike protrudes from the first planar surface at an angle of between 55 and 90 degrees. Secondly, positioning the plinth-like base under a tire of a motor vehicle with the at least one spike pointing toward the tire, such that upon the tire rolling over the plinth-like base, the at least one hollow tubular spike is transferred from the base to the tire, puncturing the tire and thereby serving as a conduit for the gradual escape of air to deflate the tire.

  • Patent number: 5656129
Abstract: A method of refining wheat straw into fibers cuts the straw to a length of between about two and about four inches, wets the straw, softens the straw by subjecting the straw to pressurized steam and refines the softened straw in a pressurized mechanical refiner to produce fibers capable of being used in the manufacture of cellulosic board products. The straw fibers may be combined in any proportion to other fibers, such as wood fibers, and used in known dry, wet-dry, and wet board manufacturing processes to produce softboard, medium-density fiberboard, and hardboard products.
