    Abstract: In a sea chest defining a hull opening and an interior, a sea chest cover for covering the hull opening and allowing water to flow in and out of the sea chest interior is combined with a sea chest liner for lining the sea chest interior, wherein the sea chest cover and the sea chest liner are made of a non-metallic material. In one aspect of the invention, the sea chest cover has one or more apertures formed therein for allowing water to flow in and out of the sea chest interior, and the one or more apertures are configured to prevent or reduce cavitations. In another aspect of the invention, the sea chest liner is a coating of a non-metallic material applied to the sea chest interior. In yet another aspect of the invention, the sea chest liner being designed to have adjustable lateral dimensions.
