  • Patent number: 5771742
Abstract: A release mechanism employing an actuating element of a shape memory alloy material. When the actuating element is heated through its phase-change transition temperature it applies a force which moves a latch to a position which activates the higher energy stored in a drive spring for moving a retaining element out of engagement with a structure. A detent when in a captured position releasably holds the retaining element in its locked position, and the detent is moved from a captured position to a retracted position to release the retaining element when the latch is moved by the actuating element.

  • Patent number: 4812594
Abstract: Aqueous solutions of crude p-hydroxymethylbenzoic acid are purified to relatively low levels of 4-carboxybenzaldehyde by hydrogenation in the presence of a nickel on kieselguhr catalyst. 4-carboxybenzaldehyde is hydrogenated to p-hydroxymethylbenzoic acid. Toluic acid production is minimal.

  • Patent number: 4393162
Abstract: Novel polyamides and copolyamides are prepared from 1,2-di(p-aminophenoxy) ethane and diacids or mixtures of 1,2-di(p-aminophenoxy) ethane and other diamines and diacids. These polyamides and copolyamides are useful as molded objects, fiber, films, laminate and coating.
