    Abstract: This invention provides a method of inhibiting the replication of a reverse transcriptase-dependent virus in cells which comprises contacting infected cells with an effective amount of a 1,2-dithiole-3-thione. A composition for inhibiting reverse transcriptase-dependent viral replication of cells comprising an effective amount of a 1,2-dithiole-3-thione and a physiologically acceptable carrier is also provided.
