  • Patent number: 8562913
Abstract: A system for filtering and purifying air within a closed environment. Air is drawn through a sequence of six filtration and purification stages, comprising, in order, an electrostatic prefilter to remove airborne impurities >=3 microns, an ultraviolet light source, a catalytic surface effective for breaking down hydrocarbons, a HEPA or other particulate filter for mechanically capturing airborne particles, a gas absorption filtration medium for removing volatile organic compounds and comprised primarily of activated charcoal, and an ionization module. The UV light is directed both upstream and downstream. The catalytic surface is semitransparent to UV light so that UV light strikes and kills microbes in the HEPA or other particulate filter medium.

  • Patent number: 8467668
Abstract: An infrared, room heater system for installation in a wall or on a floor. An electric fan assembly draws room air into a housing, then through three parallel, air transit channels where the air is heated by infrared radiation within and about a heat exchanger assembly, and then back out into the room. One or more ceramic heating elements attached to a first copper plate emit infrared radiation when electrically energized. The first copper plate lies adjacent to, but spaced away from, a second copper plate such that radiation emitted from the heating elements reflects back and forth between the plates. Room air passed between the copper plates is heated by heat radiation concentrated between the plates, thereby achieving both energy and space efficiency.

  • Patent number: 8247742
Abstract: An electric space heating system Air at ambient temperature is drawn by a fan assembly into the system through an air inlet filter, then moves through a “Z”-shaped box within a heat exchanger assembly where it is heated by quartz heater tube assemblies The heated air is further heated as it passes by copper plates within the box and then exits the system Each tube assembly includes an electrically-resistive filament within the lumen of a quartz tube that is translucent to Infrared radiation emitted by the filament Oppositely—directed, ceramic insulators, attached to opposite ends of the tube, in combination with a ceramic, electrical connector block, support the tubes within the box and provide electrical contacts for an electric power source to energize the filament The block has a spring-loaded, sliding electrical contact that facilitates installation and removal of the tube assemblies through a utility access cutout.

  • Patent number: 5185015
Abstract: Filter apparatus for removing contaminants from air includes a housing having an inlet opening and an outlet opening, and a fan for maintaining a flow of air through the housing from the inlet opening to the outlet opening. A first filter element removes particles greater than a predetermined size from air entering the housing by way of the inlet opening, and a second filter element removes particles of selected chemical species from air that has passed through the first filter element in the direction from the inlet opening to the outlet opening. The second filter element defines a chamber that is in open communication with the outlet opening, and the chamber constitutes a third filter element in which air is irradiated with ultraviolet light.

  • Patent number: 5145350
Abstract: A conversion cell for an ozone generator comprises a first electrode that is hollow and has a right cylindrical internal surface, a second electrode that has a right cylindrical external surface of smaller radius than the internal surface of the first electrode, and an insulator sleeve having coaxial right cylindrical internal and external surfaces. The insulator sleeve is disposed coaxially within the first electrode and the second electrode is disposed coaxially within the insulator sleeve, whereby first and second gas spaces are defined between the insulator sleeve and the first and second electrodes respectively. The first and second gas spaced are sealed at opposite respective ends of the conversion cell and are in open communication with each other.
