Abstract: A wound treatment device including: a housing; at least one ultrasonic transducer contained in the housing; a driver contained in the housing and electrically coupled to the at least one ultrasonic transducer and providing an excitation signal having alternating first and second waveform portions, wherein the first portion has an average imparted power greater than that of the second waveform portion; and, a cap detachably coupled to the housing and containing at least one wound care substance to be delivered, the at least one wound care substance being within a functional proximity to the transducers when the cap is attached to the housing; wherein, when the cap is attached to the housing and positioned adjacent to the skin, the at least one transducer emits ultrasound responsively to the excitation signal that impinges the substance and skin.

The absorbent material may be insonified. The absorbent material may be freeze dried. The absorbent material may be chemically treated. The absorbent material may be cross-linked with the substance.

Abstract: A method for improving transdermal delivery of an active ingredient in a formulation made in accordance with a dibasic sodium phosphate containing formula responsively to insonification thereof, including: reducing the amount of dibasic sodium phosphate in the formula to provide a reduced dibasic sodium phosphate formula; and, making a formulation in accordance with the reduced dibasic sodium phosphate formula.

Abstract: The invention is a multi-step method for treating tissue burns. First, at least one substance that includes saline is situated substantially adjacent to the tissue. Next, at least one ultrasonic signal emitting device is affixed substantially adjacent to the at least one substance. Then, at least one ultrasonic signal emitted from the at least one ultrasonic signal emitting device is applied to the at least one substance so as to effect movement of at least a portion of the at least one substance into the tissue.
