  • Patent number: 7385795
Abstract: A method consistent with an embodiment may include selecting one of a plurality of components of a power supply system of a cordless power tool to be a protected weak link element. The method may also include configuring the protected weak link element to fail from an overload condition before failure of a remainder of the plurality of components from the overload condition, monitoring a power condition of the protected weak link element, and protecting the protected weak link element from the overload condition to thereby also protect the remainder of the components from the overload condition. A battery pack and a cordless power tool are also provided.

  • Patent number: 7119516
Abstract: A cordless power tool may include tool identification circuitry to provide a tool identification signal to a battery pack. The tool identification signal may be representative of data particular to the cordless power tool. A method may include coupling a battery pack to a cordless power tool, and providing a tool identification signal to the battery pack from the cordless power tool once the battery pack is coupled to the cordless power tool, the tool identification signal representative of data particular to the cordless power tool.

  • Patent number: 7095211
Abstract: Full capacity determination in a battery gas gauge. Operations include measuring instantaneous open circuit voltage levels during an open circuit time interval for a specific battery cell and correlating such measurements to estimate values. Such estimated values may then be correlated to associated relative state of charge levels. Finally, a full capacity calculation can be made based on the associated relative state of charge levels. A plurality of full capacity determinations may also be made and compared to each other to assess the reliability of such determinations.

  • Patent number: 4741045
Abstract: Low cost, high-speed, optical character isolation and page reconstruction system, method and apparatus are presented which overcome problems caused by copied pages, noise, underlines, skewed and bowed text, forms features, logos and signatures. As characters or noise are isolated and recognized, their corresponding bit patterns in memory are deleted. Recognized characters are isolated within entire words at a time to form page image records which are then linked to form lines of words. The text on the original page is then reconstructed from lines of words to yield output signals suitable for input to a host word processor.

  • Patent number: 4700401
Abstract: A character recognition system is disclosed utilizing a dead-band correlator for providing recognition of printed typestyles having horizontal and vertical stroke width variations without impairing the resolution required for character feature analysis. The system provides fewer character-to-mask registration errors, simultaneous computation of correlation scores of registration positions of masks with respect to the unknown character to compensate for additional registration errors, improved reject and substitution rates by utilizing unique threshold and separation requirements for masks, lower error rates by using small and large noise filtering and combining dual level acceptance criteria used in conjunction with re-try methods, stroke width normalization to aid in recognition of characters with badly degraded stroke widths, and selection of specific mask sets during multiple typestyle recognition processing than has previously been possible.

  • Patent number: 4398264
Abstract: A control system is provided in a word processing apparatus to enable both foreground and background processing. A controlled circuit for controlling the operation of a storage means, a data processing means for performing data processing operations, and a second controlled circuit means coupled to a keyboard for controlling the transfer of information to and from the keyboard are each operatively connected to a data bus. The data bus enables communications among the units. The keyboard is provided with indicator means adapted to be actuated by a signal generated in the data processing means to indicate a predetermined condition in the data processing means. The keyboard may further be provided with a switch actuable to be in a first condition such that the keyboard is conditioned for data entry for a background processing mode and a second condition such that the keyboard is conditioned for data entry in a foreground mode of operation.
