  • Patent number: 4815449
Abstract: A delivery system for interstitial radiation therapy comprising a substantially non-deflecting elongated member of material which is absorbable in living tissue and a plurality of radioactive seeds dispersed in a predetermined array within the member. In one form, the member comprises an elongated member having the seeds longitudinally spaced therein and forming a needle that can be inserted in the tumor to be treated.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 30, 1987
Date of Patent: March 28, 1989
    Inventor: Bruce S. Horowitz
  • Patent number: 4763642
Abstract: A delivery system for intracavitational brachytherapy comprising a body of material which is absorbable in animal tissue and a plurality of radioactive seeds within the body and encapsulated in the body. In one form, the body comprises a hollow exterior wall with a separate central chamber such that the hollow exterior wall will accommodate growth of body tissue such as brain tissue. In another form, the body comprises a solid hollow body having the seeds held in the center of the body that can be inserted in the cavity to be treated. In another form, a flat sheet is attached tangentially to the hollow exterior wall to facilitate placement over the brain.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 7, 1986
Date of Patent: August 16, 1988
    Inventor: Bruce S. Horowitz
  • Patent number: 4754745
Abstract: A delivery system for brachytherapy comprising a conformable sheet of material which is absorbable in living tissue and a plurality of radioactive seeds in a predetermined array within the sheet. In one form, the sheet is a continuous flexible film in which the seeds are positioned in a predetermined array and which film can be sutured or stapled in place on the surface of a tumor area.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: July 5, 1988
    Inventor: Bruce S. Horowitz
  • Patent number: 4706652
Abstract: A delivery system for temporary radiation therapy comprising a sheet of material which is absorbable within the human body and having a plurality of parallel passages therein. The sheet is sutured to an area of the body which is to be treated and a catheter is inserted in each passage and extends to the exterior of the body. A tube carrying a plurality of radioactive seeds dispersed therein is inserted in each catheter. After a period of treatment, the tubes and catheters are removed and the carrier remains in the body.
