  • Patent number: 7136377
Abstract: A method for transporting real-time data such as voice over a packet-based infrastructure, and a switch for use with that method, are disclosed. In this method, datagrams from multiple data streams are packaged in a single tunnel packet for transport across a network to an intermediate switching point (switch). To reduce bandwidth, each datagram in the tunnel packet (e.g., tunneled datagram) can be sent in a compressed-header format identified by a context identifier (CID) for its data stream. The switch saves context state for each tunnel and CID it is receiving packets for. The switch deaggregates received tunnel packets into tunneled datagrams and associates each datagram with its context state. Based on the destination indicated in its context state, each datagram it re-aggregated in an outgoing tunnel packet bound for a next switch or the destination endpoint itself.

  • Patent number: 6667659
Abstract: A distributed amplifier arrangement (300) is provided in which a plurality of input signals (S1(t), . . . SN(t)) are separately controlled by a drive generator circuit (315) to produce modulation of a virtual load impedance at each amplifier stage. This permits each stage (302, 304, . . . 310) of the distributed amplifier (300) to operate at maximum efficiency by permitting the stage to produce an output voltage that approaches the supply voltage. As the output power is reduced, efficiency is maintained by systematically reducing the number of stages contributing to the output to the load.

  • Publication number: 20030033497
Abstract: File operations on files in a peripheral system are controlled by an intelligent controller with a file processor. The files are accessed as if the intelligent controller were an addressable virtual storage space. This is accomplished first by communicating controller commands for the intelligent controller through read/write commands addressed to a Command Region of a virtual storage device. The controller commands set up a Mapped Data Region in the virtual storage device for use in controlling data transfer operations to and from the peripheral system. With the Mapped Data Regions set up, blocks of data are transferred between the host and the intelligent controller in response to read/write commands addressed to the Mapped Data Region of the virtual storage device.

  • Patent number: 5463772
Abstract: A Transparent Peripheral File System (TPFS) includes a Peripheral File System Adapter (PFSA) which communicates with a host operating system at the vnode level of file operation by packaging such communications for transmission over an I/O system interface, such as SCSI. A file peripheral system remote from the host and in a peripheral relation thereto is responsive to the PFSA, without an intervening file server. The peripheral file system produces hardware commands for the mass storage device whose space it manages. The peripheral file system may be embedded in a mass storage device, a lump in the interconnecting interface cable, or a smart interface card in the backplane of the host. The peripheral file system may include a daisy chain connection to allow the propagation of vnode communication to other peripheral file systems. In this way a hierarchy of peripheral file systems may be physically mounted to one another in a way that corresponds to how they are logically mounted.

  • Patent number: 5299458
Abstract: An indication of the formability of metallic sheet is determined using a correlation between nondestructively measurable ultrasonic properties and a formability index. A calibration relation is initially established by measuring ultrasonic velocities at various angles to the rolling direction of sheet specimens with noncontacting electromagnetic acoustic transducers, calculating an ultrasonic correlation parameter from the measurements, destroying the specimens in tensile tests to measure a formability index, and then correlating the ultrasonic correlation parameter with the formability index. Once this relationship is established, the formability index of a working sample, which is not to be destroyed, is found by making the same types of ultrasonic property measurements on the working sample, calculating the ultrasonic correlation parameter for the working sample, and then employing the previously established correlation to ascertain the formability index for the working sample.
