  • Patent number: 5536542
Abstract: A process of producing a heat sealed extrusion coated polyethylene article is disclosed. This process entails heat sealing, at a temperature below 95.degree. C. two opposing extrusion coated polyethylene laminate surfaces thereby welding the surfaces to effect a heat seal. The polyethylene has a narrow molecular weight distribution, a low melt index, a low swell ratio, and a polydispersity index below 5.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 20, 1995
Date of Patent: July 16, 1996
    Assignee: Eastman Chemical Company
Inventors: Bruce A. Gillespie, Ray Edwards, Bruce W. Foster
  • Patent number: 5512370
Abstract: Disclosed is a novel polyethylene composition that is a blend of a polyethylene component having defined properties, a specific quantity of a defined tackifying resin and a very specific minute quantity of a unique amide of a fatty acid. The novel composition can be used in a process for extrusion coating at high speeds and relatively low extrusion coating temperatures with good adhesion to the substrate and dramatically improved chill roll release.

  • Patent number: 5021257
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a hot-melt adhesive containing at least one propylene/1-hexane copolymer. The adhesive contains an amount of a low viscosity, substantially crystalline wax, having a melting point of about 90.degree. C. to about 125.degree. C., sufficient to improve the elastic delamination resistance of the adhesive. The adhesive are particularly useful in disposable diaper construction.

The adhesive contains an amount of a low viscosity, substantially crystalline wax, having a melting point of about 90.degree. C. to about 125.degree. C., sufficient to improve the elastic delamination resistance of the adhesive. The adhesives are particularly useful in disposible diaper construction.

  • Patent number: 4749739
Abstract: Disclosed is a hot-melt adhesive composition capable of bonding paper to metal, glass and polyethylene terephthalate comprising an amorphous polymer selected from polypropylene or copoly(propylene-butene) having a propylene content of greater than 50%, a hydrocarbon tackifier resin, and a rosin tackifier. Preferably, the composition also contains a polyethylene wax.

  • Patent number: 4719260
Abstract: Disclosed is a hot-melt adhesive composition comprising from about 55 to about 95 weight % of an amorphous polymer containing at least 30% propylene and from about 45 to about 5 weight % of a graft copolymer of(a) a saturated, polycyclic hydrocarbon resin, and(b) maleic anhydride.

Inventors: Richard K. Stuart, Jr., Bruce W. Foster
  • Patent number: 4471086
Abstract: The hot-melt adhesives of the present invention comprise a blend of at least one polyethylene, a tackifying resin, a high density, low viscosity polyethylene wax having a molecular weight of about 1000, and a Fischer-Tropsch hydrocarbon wax. This hot-melt adhesive has a novel combination of properties such as low viscosity and fast setting which meet the requirements necessary for use in rapid bonding or closing in low temperature applications.
