  • Patent number: 9608506
Abstract: Embodiments described herein may take the form of an electromagnetic actuator that produces a haptic output during operation. Generally, an electromagnetic coil is wrapped around a central magnet array. A shaft passes through the central magnet array, such that the central array may move along the shaft when the proper force is applied. When a current passes through the electromagnetic coil, the coil generates a magnetic field. The coil is stationary with respect to a housing of the actuator, while the central magnet array may move along the shaft within the housing. Thus, excitation of the coil exerts a force on the central magnet array, which moves in response to that force. The direction of the current through the coil determines the direction of the magnetic field and thus the motion of the central magnet array.

  • Publication number: 20160212526
Abstract: A waterproof speaker module may include a membrane formed from at least one waterproof and elastic material and a supporting structure. The membrane may include an outer surface, an inner surface, and at least one concave region that is indented toward the inner surface. The supporting structure may be coupled to the membrane and include a support structure that mates with the concave region of the membrane when the speaker is subjected to a hydrostatic load. When the speaker is not subjected to a hydrostatic load, the support structure may contact the concave region. In this way, the membrane may be resistant to tearing or rupture due to hydrostatic load.

  • Publication number: 20150085432
Abstract: A ceramic material having an electronic component embedded therein, and more particularly to a sapphire surface having an electrically energized component embedded within. In some embodiments, the sapphire surface may take the form of a portion of a housing for an electronic device. Since sapphire may be substantially transparent, it may form a cover glass for a display within or forming part of the electronic device, as one example. The cover glass may be bonded, affixed, or otherwise attached to a remainder of the housing, thereby forming an enclosure for the electronic device.

  • Patent number: 8754343
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for reducing the space required by a switch assembly input component of an electronic device. The input component may include a track and a button capable of linear movement within the track. The input component may also include a disk having a slot and a plurality of labels. A pin may be coupled to the button and may extend into the slot for translating the linear movement of the button into rotational movement of the disk. The rotational movement of the disk may alter the portion the labels that are exposed to a user under an open portion of the track. The input component may also include a switch coupled to a portion of the pin extending through the slot of the disk. A switch arm may move along a switch path of the switch in response to the linear movement of the button.
