  • Patent number: 10970935
Abstract: A person who is not using a hybrid reality (HR) system communicates with the HR system without using a network communications link using a body pose. Data is received from a sensor and an individual is detected in the sensor data. A first situation of at least one body part of the individual in 3D space is ascertained at a first time and a body pose is determined based on the first situation of the at least one body part. An action is decided on based on the body pose and the action is performed on an HR system worn by a user.

  • Patent number: 10955674
Abstract: A method of signaling includes receiving a first type of energy at a beacon device, converting the first type of energy into a second type of energy, and transmitting the second type of energy to indicate a position of the beacon device in a real-world environment to a hybrid reality (HR) system. A beacon device includes a receiver to receive a first type of energy, a conversion apparatus to convert the first type of energy into a second type of energy, and a transmitter to transmit the second type of energy to a hybrid reality (HR) system.

  • Publication number: 20210043007
Abstract: A head-mounted display (HMD) provides directional guidance to a user. The HMD obtains a path from a current real-world position of at least a body part of the user to a different real-world position through real-world space and renders an image representing at least a portion of the path through the real-world space. The rendered image is overlaid on a scene of the real-world space and presented to the user on the HMD. An additional sensory stimulus, directed to the user's sense of sound, touch, smell, or taste is provided to the user, in addition to the image, to encourage the user to move the body part along the path.

  • Patent number: 10818088
Abstract: A computer system presents a virtual object on a display of the computer system which represents an action at a location in space. If a user of the computer system approaches the location, the computer system presents one or more stimuli to encourage movement away from that location. The appearance of the object may vary as the user of the computer system moves. The appearance of the object may include information and may vary with a change of state. Multiple such virtual objects may be used to indicate a path.

Abstract: Information obscured to a user is provided through a display of a hybrid reality system (DHR). data associated with an occluded object at least partially occluded by a real-world object at a position of the user is received and a display window is created on the DHR. A first magnification factor is obtained and a first image of at least the portion of the occluded object is rendered in the display window at the first magnification factor at a first time. A second magnification factor, different than the first magnification factor, is obtained, and a second image of at least the portion of the occluded object is rendered in the display window at the second magnification factor at a second time after the first time.

  • Publication number: 20200174553
Abstract: A computer system enhances guidance information on a display, allowing a user position and orientation in 3D space to be achieved. In some embodiments, the guidance is visual, for example the blurring of display objects not at the desired position. In some embodiments, the guidance is aural, for example placing a sound moving to the desired position. In some embodiments, the guidance is tactile, for example using haptic pads attached to a head-mounted display to push the user in a specified direction. The system may be used to guide the user spatially for the performing of a task, to help the user avoid sensitive components, or to guide the user to position a sensor, such as a camera, in an optimal direction for taking measurements. The system includes head positioning, hand positioning and gaze positioning techniques.

  • Publication number: 20200081204
Abstract: A grating coupled laser (GCL) includes an active section and a passive section. The passive section is butt coupled to the active section to form a butt joint with the active section. The active section includes an active waveguide. The passive section includes a passive waveguide, a transmit grating coupler, and a top cladding. The passive waveguide is optically coupled end to end with the active waveguide and includes a first portion and a second portion. The first portion of the passive waveguide is positioned between the second portion of the passive waveguide and the active waveguide. The transmit grating coupler is optically coupled to the passive waveguide and includes grating teeth that extend upward from the second portion of the passive waveguide.
