Abstract: An antiseptic cleansing composition comprising an antimicrobial agent, an effective amount of an alkylpolysaccharide surfactant, at least one alkyl alcohol and at least one aryl alcohol. Suitable surfactant alkylpolysaccharides may contain one or more sugar units selected from the group consisting of maltose, arabinose, xylose, mannose, galactose, gulose, idose, talose, allose, altrose, sucrose, fructose, sorbose, levulose, lactose, allulose, tagatose, alloheptulose, sedoheptulose, glucoheptulose, mannoheptulose, guloheptulose, idoheptulose, galactoheptulose, taloheptulose and derivatives thereof. Suitable antimicrobial agents include chlorhexidine, chlorhexidine salt, chlorophenol derivative, octenidindihydrochloride (CH3—(CH2)7—NHON—(CH2)10—NO—NH(CH2)7—CH2 or any other salt thereof, and quaternary ammonium compounds.

Abstract: A stable organic iodophor composition including an iodophor wherein the ratio or organic iodine solubilizing compound to iodine is less than 5:1 by weight, and a process for the production of an iodophor composition which process includes dissolving an organic iodine solubilizing compound and iodine or an iodine liberating substance in water in amounts such that the ratio of iodine liberating substance to iodine is less that 5:1 by weight and optionally adjusting the pH. adding an oxidizing agent and readjusting the pH following oxidation.

Abstract: Antiseptic cleansing compositions and in particular to those containing a water soluble salt of chlorhexidine (N,N'- bis (4-chlorophenyl)-3,12-diimino 2,4,11,13-tetrazatetradecanediimidamide) as its active antibacterial ingredient. The present invention provides an antibacterial composition comprising from 0.1% w/v to 10.0% w/v of a water soluble salt of chlorhexidine, at least one nonionic surfactant and a diluent or carrier, wherein the weight ratio of the chlorhexidine salt to the nonionic surfactant and an inert diluent or carrier, wherein the weight ratio of the chlorhexidine salt to the nonionic surfactant is not more than 1:7.
