Abstract: A transport refrigeration system is provided comprising a cargo container and a transport refrigeration unit arranged to cool the cargo container. The cargo container is equipped with a mobile bulkhead that partitions the interior of the cargo container. The transport refrigeration unit comprises a heat-absorbing heat exchanger positioned in fluid communication with the interior of the cargo container. The transport refrigeration system is further provided with a sensor configured to determine a distance between the mobile bulkhead and the heat-absorbing heat exchanger. A method of operating a transport refrigeration system is also provided.

Abstract: A refrigerated vehicle (2; 4; 6; 8) having at least one refrigerated compartment (10) comprises a refrigeration unit and at least one electrical power supply (60, 64). The refrigeration unit has a first module (14) mounted on the exterior of a refrigerated compartment (10), and which comprises: a compressor (28) having motor hermetically disposed therein, the motor being electrically connected to the at least one electrical power supply (64); a condenser heat exchanger (30); and at least one condenser fan assembly (42). The refrigeration unit also comprises a second module (16) mounted on the interior of a refrigerated compartment (10), and which comprises: an evaporator heat exchanger (50); and at least one evaporator fan assembly (52).

A vehicle roof of the compartment has an external layer and an internal layer spaced apart from the external layer with insulation located there between. The vehicle roof includes an opening that receives the refrigeration unit. A gasket provides a seal between the refrigeration unit and the vehicle roof. The gasket covers the exterior layer and the interior layer. The gasket is formed of multiple layers of material which are secured to one another.

Abstract: A refrigeration unit includes an external housing and an internal housing supported by a vehicle roof. The internal housing includes an inner wall spaced from an outer wall with air located between to insulate the components of the refrigeration unit from an interior of a vehicle. The internal housing, a condenser, a compressor, and an evaporator may be assembled together into a refrigeration unit chassis prior to assembly with the vehicle roof. Fasteners are used to assemble the internal housing to the chassis. The external housing and a cover to reduce the amount of contaminants that enter the refrigeration unit. Water drains are located at the bottom of the internal housing along the inner wall to collect and dispose of any water within the refrigeration unit.
