  • Patent number: 7635357
Abstract: A needleless injection site comprising a housing defining proximal and distal ends and including a reseal member disposed therein. The reseal member has an elastically openable and closable aperture formed therein, and normally resides within the housing in a closed position wherein the aperture is in a closed configuration. The reseal member is deformable such that the application of distally directed pressure thereto will cause the reseal member to distally advance within the housing to an open position wherein the aperture assumes an open configuration. The removal of the distally directed pressure from the reseal member will cause it to resiliently return to the closed position wherein the aperture assumes the closed configuration.

  • Patent number: 6210624
Abstract: A method of forming a reseal element through the use of a mold assembly including first and second mold plates, a shell core, a center pin, a center core, and a mold cavity having a shape corresponding to that of the reseal element and collectively defined by the first and second mold plates, the shell and center cores, and the center pin. The method comprises the initial step of injecting a quantity of a moldable material into the mold cavity to form the reseal element. Air is then infused between the shell core and the center pin into the mold cavity to dislodge the reseal element from the shell core and the center pin. Thereafter, the center core is retracted from the reseal element to define a gap therebetween, with the second plate then being retracted from over the reseal element to expose the same. The first plate is then advanced toward the second plate to remove the reseal element from upon the shell core and the center pin.

  • Patent number: 6206861
Abstract: A needleless injection site comprising a housing which defines a fluid passage. Disposed within the housing is a reseal member which includes an openable and closable aperture, and an expandable and collapsible reservoir. The reseal member normally resides in a first position within the housing wherein the aperture is closed and the reservoir is collapsed. The reseal member is deformable such that the application of compressive pressure thereto will facilitate the movement thereof within the housing to a second position wherein the reservoir is expanded and the aperture is opened and placed into communication with the fluid passage and the reservoir. The removal of the compressive pressure from the reseal member will facilitate the resilient return thereof to the first position wherein the aperture is closed and the reservoir is collapsed. The collapse of the reservoir is adapted to prevent the creation of a vacuum within the fluid passage when the reseal member resiliently returns to the first position.

  • Patent number: 6177037
Abstract: A method of forming a slit in a reseal element having an outer surface defined by a proximal end thereof, a semi-spherical inner surface portion defined by a dome region of the proximal end, and an annular inner surface portion which circumvents the semi-spherical inner surface portion. The method is accomplished through the use of a cutting assembly which includes a locator plate having a locator cavity disposed therein, a cutting core, a support fixture, and a blade member. The method comprises the initial step of inserting the reseal element into the locator cavity of the locator plate. Thereafter, the dome region of the reseal element is pre-stressed by the contact of the support fixture thereagainst, with the blade member then being advanced upwardly through the proximal end of the reseal element to form the slit therein.

  • Patent number: 5891096
Abstract: An infusion device comprising a housing having a base plate disposed therein which is slidably moveable between first and second positions. Attached to the base plate and the housing is a biasing mechanism for biasing the base plate to the second position. Also disposed within the housing is an actuator plate which is slidably moveable between inner and outer positions. The actuator plate is cooperatively engaged to the base plate in a manner wherein the movement of the base plate toward the second position facilitates the movement of the actuator plate toward the outer position, with the movement of the base plate toward the first position facilitating the movement of the actuator plate toward the inner position. Slidably attached to the housing in spaced relation to the actuator plate is a lid member. The lid member, the actuator plate and the housing define a medicament chamber when the lid member is in a closed position.
