Abstract: Battery powered electric motor-driven fire pump system for maintaining water pressure in a fire sprinkler network. The fire pump system includes: a fire pump controller including a fire pump controller logic, a battery charger and a plurality of starting contactors; a battery pack connected to the battery charger and to the plurality of starting contactors, the battery pack rechargeable by the battery charger; an electric motor powered by the battery pack through the plurality of starting contactors; and a fire pump drivable by the electric motor. In use, when the fire pump controller detects a drop in water pressure in the fire sprinkler network, the fire pump controller activates the electric motor to drive the fire pump to restore water pressure in the fire sprinkler network.

Abstract: A mechanical asymmetrical activator for electrical contactors in the manufacturing of fire pump controllers comprising a flexible cable and pulley system wherein the pulling of the flexible cable engages the pulley system to activate contactor. The activator comprises a compound pulley assembly comprising a first pulley with a fixed axle and a second pulley with a free axle, an arm in cooperation with the free axle and adapted to engage the contact carrier of a contactor and a plurality of mounting attachments for engaging the auxiliary contactor mounting points of a contactor.

Abstract: A microprocessor based jockey pump controller for controlling operation of a jockey pump used to maintain pressure within a fire pump system. The controller includes an electronic circuit board having a microprocessor mounted thereon, and a solid state pressure sensing device for monitoring a current level of the pressure. The sensing device is connected to the board for transmitting to the microprocessor an electrical signal indicative of the current level of the pressure. The microprocessor compares the received signal to predetermined pressure thresholds for selectively starting or stopping the jockey pump.

Abstract: A transfer switch assembly to alternatively connect an electrical load to a primary or to a secondary power source. The transfer switch uses two conventional switches, or circuit breakers, having pivot type or linear type actuating members. A conventional linear motor is used. The actuating members of the switches, or circuit breakers, are in contact with the movable portion of the linear motor through a coupling mecanism. The coupling mecanism ensures that the switches, or circuit breakers, are not in a closed position simultaneously.
