  • Patent number: 8167909
Abstract: The connecting element (1) has the shape of a rod with longitudinal axis (2), a rear end (6), and a front end (7), and serves to span a number of bone anchoring elements (12) implanted in the bone. The connecting element (1) comprises at least one longitudinal slot (5). This provides it with a greater elasticity during implantation so that it can be reversibly deformed. The connecting element can then be stiffened once it has been fixed in the bone anchoring elements (e.g. pedicle screws).

  • Publication number: 20060069390
Abstract: A bone fixation device for use in, for example, spinal column surgery, includes at least two bone fixation elements that each have a passage and a portion to be anchored on or in the bone. The device also includes at least two longitudinal, flexible connecting members that can be inserted and fastened in the passages of two adjacent fixation elements. The device can flexibly adapt to a patient's anatomy and to desired surgical results during the implantation of the device, and can then be rendered entirely rigid by simply blocking the fixation elements relative to one another. In addition, use of the device in the surgical treatment of the spinal column is minimally invasive.

  • Patent number: 6524341
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a vertebral bone prosthetic device comprising an interior body, provided with an outer surface and a first coupling element thereon, and an exterior hollow body with a bore therein extending along a central axis, with the interior body being configured and dimensioned to be slidably received by the exterior body along the central axis, and provided with an interior surface and an exterior surface, the interior surface having a groove. The device also comprises a fixation ring having inner and outer surfaces, with the inner surface having a second coupling element thereon. The fixation ring is configured and dimensioned to be received within the groove of the exterior body for rotational movement about the central axis of the exterior body. Rotation of the fixation ring results in engagement of the first and second coupling elements to thereby prevent relative sliding movement between the interior and exterior bodies.

  • Patent number: 6419867
Abstract: In a method for the manufacture of padding material from inherently rigid flat material, such as cardboard packaging or the like, the flat material is cut into parallel strip sections, which in the vicinity of connecting areas spaced in the longitudinal direction of the strips remain partly interconnected. Between the connecting areas the strip sections are so deformed perpendicular to the flat material extension that transversely adjacent strip sections are bent in opposite directions. A manufacturing apparatus is constructed in the manner of a document shredder with a cutting mechanism having cooperating cutting rollers, which have circumferential grooves, which during the passage of the flat material at regular intervals lead to an interruption of the cut.

  • Patent number: 5954279
Abstract: As the stripper (20) for the cutting mechanism (13) of a document or paper shredder (11) is provided a plastic part, which can be injection moulded in one piece and entirely surrounds the shaft (18) of the cutting rollers (15) in the gap (17) between the cutting disks (16). In the overlap area (23) between the two cutting disks is provided a thin, flexible stripper web (24), which makes it possible to open the separation point (36) of the stripper separated with respect to the flexible circumferential portion (24) to such an extent that it can be snapped over the shaft (18). The stripper can be manufactured as a single component or as a stripper block with several to all the strippers of a cutting roller. This leads to a low friction stripper preventing cut particles winding round the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5934580
Abstract: A document shredder (11) has a cutting mechanism (12) constructed as a chassis and in which the cutting rollers (16) are mounted so as to contrarotate. They are designed as disks cutting on both sides for particle cutting. Over the entire length of the cutting rollers (16) extend stripper elements (28, 29), whose individual strippers (31) are combined into a block by means of longitudinally directed connecting elements (33). As they engage by more than 180.degree., almost 270.degree., around the shaft cross-section (18), two stripper elements (28, 29) are connected in mutually fitting manner in the circumferential direction. The stripper elements can be made in one piece from injection moulded plastic and are also used for the connection of the two side walls (14, 15) of the cutting mechanism (12).

  • Patent number: 5515786
Abstract: A projectile includes an explosive charge, a corresponding initiating device, a penetrator that only deforms upon impact with a target having a predetermined mechanical resistance, an internal impact contactor arranged between the penetrator and the charge, and a device to ensure initiation of the charge following crushing of the internal impact contactor and after the explosive charge has begun to be deformed following impact on the target. The projectile is particularly effective against hard targets such as stone, brick or cement structures.

  • Patent number: 5350632
Abstract: The dimension-stable impregnated polyester tire cord is at least 95% by weight polyethylene terephthalate and has an intrinsic viscosity of 0.70 dl/g to 0.89 dl/g for undrawn cord, a fineness of at least 1100 x 2 dtex, a dimension stability coefficient of at least 30'000 cN.sup.2 /tex.sup.2, a thermal shrinkage of about 0.8 percent measured at a temperature of 160.degree. C. with 0.1 cN/tex pre-stress and a permanent lengthening of less than 1.5 percent at a tire pressure of 2 bar and a temperature of 100.degree. C., so as to reduce shrinkage during vulcanization and in tires heated in operation and so as to provide a quieter running tire. The fatigue resistance of this polyester tire cord suffers a drop in tensile strength of less than 20 percent measured at 10.8 MC with 6 percent strain and 6 percent compression so that tires made from the polyester cord have a greater durability and increased life.
