  • Patent number: 5400851
Abstract: In a process of producing monotectic alloys having a relatively large miscibility gap in a liquid state and having in a solidified state a minority phase, which is included in the matrix and has the shape of droplets and has a higher density than the matrix, a molten material which is heated above the segregation temperature is continuously cast at a high casting speed end cooling rats. In order to achieve a sufficiently good disoersion of the minority phase the molten material is cast in a vertical direction.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 29, 1991
Date of Patent: March 28, 1995
    Assignee: Metallgesellschaft Aktiengesellschaft
    Inventors: Bruno Prinz, Alberto Romero
  • Patent number: 5205856
Abstract: The present invention provides an inoculation wire consisting of a hollow wire, containing powdered ferrosilicon, with a sheeth of steel, copper, nickel or aluminum alloy, for the production of cast iron with spheroidal graphite or vermicular graphite, wherein the filling contains 1 to 50% by volume of powdered magnesium silicide.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 12, 1992
Date of Patent: April 27, 1993
    Assignee: Skw Trostberg Aktiengesellschaft

  • Patent number: 5192377
Abstract: In a process of producing strip or wire, which consists of a monotectic aluminum-silicon alloy comprising a matrix consisting of aluminum and an aluminum-silicon eutectic system and as a minority phase 1 to 50% by weight lead or bismuth included in said matrix, which strip or wire has been continuously cast at a high casting velocity and a high cooling rate from a molten material which has been heated to a temperature above the segregation temperature, and which strip or wire has been subjected to plastic deformation and to a heat treatment, the minority phase which is embedded in the form of elongate platelets in the strip or wire is transformed to more compact shapes by a heat treatment at temperatures of 550.degree. to 600.degree. C.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4541878
Abstract: A high ductility machinable cast iron with mixed austenitic-bainitic structure is made by a method which involves limiting the manganese content to less than 0.3% by weight and utilizing a substantially lower temperature austenitizing heat treatment (820.degree. to 830.degree. C.) for a shorter period (10 to 25 minutes) than has hitherto been considered to be necessary to achieve such structures. The low alloy cast iron can therefore be made from available scrap with low manganese content and at low cost.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4436790
Abstract: A copper-base alloy which consists essentially of 1 to 7% tin and 1 to 7% aluminum and contains aluminum and tin in a total not in excess of 10%, balance copper and inevitable impurities which are due to the manufacturer, is disclosed. It is useful as a coinage material of gold color.

  • Patent number: 4401488
Abstract: An alloy useful as a coinage alloy, especially as a cladding for a coin comprising a core and a cladding is disclosed. The alloy consists essentially of 4 to 6% nickel, 4 to 6% aluminum, balance copper and inevitable impurities which are due to the manufacture. Also disclosed are coins made therefrom having a gold-like color.
