Abstract: A passive flow control valve assembly for controlling the flow of fuel through the fill pipe of an underground fuel storage system is disclosed comprising a valve housing mounted to the discharge end of the fill pipe, a valve assembly for controlling flow through the housing which is mounted for movement between a first open position permitting substantially unrestricted flow through the housing and at least a second position substantially restricting the flow through the housing, an actuator arm assembly for moving the valve between the first and second positions with the actuator arm being interconnected to the valve so as to progressively correspondingly move the valve from the first open position to the second closed position as the actuator arm moves from a first position to a second position, and a float assembly connected to the actuator arm for moving the arm responsive to the liquid level in the storage tank.

Abstract: An improved counter wheel assembly comprising an indicia wheel, a reset gear, a reset control mechanism for resetting the indicia wheel to a zero position, a drive gear, and a drive clutch for selectively engaging the indicia wheel to the drive gear. In one form, the drive clutch comprises an elongated pawl engageable with a frusto-conical surface integral with the drive gear and adjacent to and immediately inwardly of the rim of the indicia wheel. In a second embodiment, the drive clutch means comprises a pair of substantially identical V-shaped pawls that pivot in tandem to selectively engage serrations of a substantially cylindrical engagement surface.

Abstract: A fuel dispenser cost counter having a plurality of coaxial cost counter wheels with a 100 count first order counter wheel with ten, 36.degree. spaced, two-place identifying numerals of 00, 10, 20 . . . 90 having an angular height of 30.degree., ten-count graduations centered on the identifying numerals and intermediate five-count graduations between the identifying numerals and with both the ten-count and five-count graduations extending at least substantially the full width of the identifying numerals and such that the counter can be read without substantial readout ambiguity during a count transfer from the first order counter wheel to the next higher order counter wheel.

Abstract: An expanded readout system and a method for expanding the readout of a resettable fuel pump register employs a shutter pinion, a shutter having a pawl assembly, and a stop means for each of the counters to be expanded. The pawl assembly may comprise one of two pawl structures depending on the counter. The expanded readout operates in conjunction with the mechanical system of the register to record the expanded readout and to reset the readout by rotation of the shutter.

Abstract: Two embodiments of a fuel pump cost counter anti-overtravel device having a controlled coil spring clutch for selectively clutching the cost counter drive train to a fixed drum for preventing cost counter overtravel at the termination of a fuel delivery.

Abstract: A fuel pump cost counter anti-backlash device having a follower rotor connected by a reverse bias spring to the cost counter drive train for removing any inertia overtravel in the drive train at the termination of a fuel delivery and a controlled coil spring clutch for clutching the follower rotor to a fixed drum for establishing a substantially constant reverse bias.

Abstract: A readout pointer for the penny wheel of a fuel pump cost counter having a circumferentially extending mask for the penny wheel and adapted to be mounted in alternate axially spaced positions for selectively masking the short graduations on the penny wheel for selectively reading the penny wheel either to the nearest 1.cent. graduations or nearest 2.cent. graduations.

Abstract: A fuel pump register cost counter having a transfer mechanism permitting count transfers at a substantially reduced torque through the use of a torsion spring drive of the transfer ring of the units wheel and the use of transfer pinions between the counter wheels having transfer gear sections with alternating involute gear teeth and non-involute resilient gear teeth providing for relatively gradually accelerating and decelerating the transfer pinion at the beginning and end of the transfer interval.

Abstract: A devise for sensing sudden abnormal movement of a power operated tool, such as a hand held circular saw or drill. The device, comprising a wrap spring clutch and an inertia sensing means, further rapidly declutches the tool drive in response to the abnormal movement. The declutching reduces the severity of movement where it is power induced and renders the output drive inoperative to improve operator safety. The tool must be positively reset to accomplish further operation.

Abstract: A fuel dispenser with a resettable register having a safety limit mechanism for limiting the amount of fuel dispensed by means of a gear trip mechanism indexed by the register to trip a shut-off valve after an adjustable safety limit is dispensed. The trip mechanism is reset for a succeeding delivery automatically by the register reset mechanism during the register reset cycle or manually by a reset push-button on the dispenser.

Abstract: A pulse generator bar unit adapted to be substituted for the totalizer bar unit of a conventional mechanical fuel pump register to modify the register for providing an electrical pulse train with an electrical pulse for each predetermined amount of fuel delivered.

Abstract: A counter operated control device is provided for controlling and terminating the delivery of liquid petroleum products and the like. The device includes a presettable counter controlling a multiple stage trip mechanism having independent first and second stage trip units. The counter is further provided with an interlock between a preset control rod and a valve control ring, an emergency trip feature, the ability to provide an adjustable trip setting without disassembly of the counter, an improved count transfer array and improved performance and accuracy through optimization of the operating forces within the counter.

Abstract: A resettable register counter wheel assembly with a modified reset gear control mechanism having a modified reset gear pawl pivotal about an axis transverse to the wheel axis for selectively engaging and disengaging a reset gear and a reset control pawl pivotally mounted on the wheel about an axis parallel to and offset from the wheel axis and extending between the reset gear pawl and wheel shaft for pivoting the reset gear pawl outwardly with the shaft and for accurately locking the wheel to the shaft in its fully reset position.

Abstract: Conversion of a fuel pump computer price variator from a three place to a four place unit volume price range and comprising an auxiliary higher place take-off shaft parallel to and having a coaxial gear in engagement with the variator cone gear, an additional summation differential mounted at the top of the variator coaxially with the cone gear and substantially within a stepped dome-like projection of a modified cost variator cover for combining an auxiliary higher place price output to the conventional three place price output, an idler gear in operative engagement with and mounted on a lever for pivotal movement about the additional summation differential for selective engagement with one or more take-off shaft driven gears, and, auxiliary price posting shutters connected to the lever for displaying the higher place price setting.

Abstract: A presettable counter operated control mechanism employing a spring lock latching arrangement for releasably locking a rotatable control member in different angularly loaded positions. A coil spring connected to the control member encircles a first drum and is selectively frictionally anchored to the drum by a latching arrangement which is releasable by the counter reaching a referenced count to releasably lock the control member at a particular angular position. Two latches provide for releasably locking the control member at two different angular positions thereof, and are tripped at two respective referenced counts, with both latches being tripped at the later reference count. Final release of the control member is operative to terminate counting operation.An interlock between the control member and the wheel presetting mechanism prevents interference with the setting of the counter wheels while the control member is locked and the counter is counting.

Abstract: A fuel delivery pump with a settable price variator with a center shaft driven by a fuel meter, volume counters driven by the variator center shaft for registering the volume of fuel delivered and cost counters for registering the cost of fuel delivered driven via a dual input drive transmission having inputs connected to the variator center shaft and to the output of the settable price gearing of the variator and operative to reduce the torque load on the settable price gearing.
