  • Patent number: 4586224
Abstract: A roller for paper or foil sheet handling machines such as printing presses comprises a cylinder consisting of fiber reinforced plastic material including alternate layers of circumferentially wound fibers and helically wound fibers. The helically wound fibers are arranged in groups of strings which are spaced from one another so as to form rhombus-shaped depressions in the surface of the cylinder, thereby providing rollers of relatively low masses but high strengths which have surfaces capable of firmly engaging the paper or foil sheets.

  • Patent number: 4533089
Abstract: An apparatus for making a rotationally symmetrical body formed of crisscross-wound layers includes a winding mandrel, a carriage reciprocating along the mandrel and a thread laying assembly mounted on the carriage. The assembly has a pivotal device, and four thread laying rollers mounted for rotation on the pivotal device. The shafts of the rollers extend parallel to one another and are situated at points of an imaginary equilateral trapezoid having a plane perpendicular to the roller shafts. Each roller has a plurality of circumferential grooves for simultaneously guiding and depositing on the mandrel a plurality of parallel-running threads. Two rollers are situated on one side of the pivot axis of the pivotal device and form a first roller pair and two rollers are situated on an opposite side of the pivot axis and form a second roller pair.

  • Patent number: 4455207
Abstract: A method for metallizing the surface of a carbon fiber reinforced plastic member by vapor-deposition of a metal layer in a high vacuum, with a glow treatment taking place before the vapor-deposition process. The surface of the plastic member to be metallized is removed until the carbon fibers lying closest to the surface are partially exposed. The plastic member is then degassed. A negative high voltage is applied across the degassed plastic member to bring about a glow treatment of the plastic member before the metal vapor-deposition. The glow treatment is continued into the initial phase of the metal vapor-deposition process.

  • Patent number: 4359356
Abstract: In the production of fiber reinforced axially symmetrical wound bodies each of predetermined length, by winding fibers or strands of fibers saturated with a hardenable plastic onto a mandrel, alternating layers of circumferential windings and layers with criss-cross windings being placed on top of one another, and, after hardening of the plastic, removing the mandrel, the winding is carried out to simultaneously produce a plurality of identical wound bodies axially juxtaposed on the mandrel by the steps of: winding at least one circumferential layer by attaching a plurality of fibers or strands corresponding to the number of bodies to be wound at axially spaced locations along the mandrel and winding all of the fibers or strands simultaneously on the mandrel with mutual axial spacings approximately corresponding to, or somewhat greater than, the length of each wound body; winding at least one criss-cross winding layer by attaching at least one fiber or strand to the mandrel and winding the fiber or strand ove

  • Patent number: 4153480
Abstract: A method is provided for forming an anti-corrosive oxide layer on steel. The steel surface is subjected to superheated steam for a period of one to several hours. Before subjecting the steel to the superheated steam, the steel surface is initially subjected to a gaseous formic acid atmosphere at a raised temperature of up to 480.degree. C. The treatment with superheated steam takes place during a further heating period in which a temperature between 450.degree. C. and 520.degree. C. is maintained under steam flow-through conditions in which the steam flow has a Reynolds number greater than 900.
