  • Patent number: 7406809
Abstract: Wrapping material (2) supplied to a packaging machine is caused to advance along a predetermined feed path (3) through a first checking station (27a) where an emitter device (29) charges at least one predetermined portion (30, 34) of the wrapping material (2) electrostatically, and a second checking station (27b) where a sensor (31) detects the presence of the electrostatic charges applied previously to the predetermined portion (30, 34) of the material (2). The sensor (31) is positioned along the feed path (3) downstream of and at a predetermined distance from the emitter device (29).

  • Patent number: 7299807
Abstract: Cigars are released from a feed station onto first and second conveyor belts and directed along a predetermined feed path, part of which coinciding with a wheel interposed between the two belts and equipped with a set of needles serving to pierce the cigars by engaging at least one respective end portion; the wheel is also equipped with a set of clamp elements, each able to restrain a single cigar and caused to revolve in stable alignment with a relative needle. The single needle is fashioned from a resistive metal and connected to an electrical power source in such a way that it can be heated by applying a current and inducing the Joule effect.

  • Patent number: 7222472
Abstract: Wrapping material utilized by a packaging machine is advanced along a set feed path through a station where an accessory material, typically adhesive, is applied in spots to selected areas of the surface, whereupon the material is charged electrostatically at a first station, and thereafter sensed at a second station to reveal the distribution of the charges; the electrostatic charges register more strongly on and around the spots, so that by measuring any variation in strength relative to the remainder of the surface, identifiable with faulty application of the adhesive, substandard material can be detected before it reaches the wrapping stations of the machine.

  • Patent number: 6978877
Abstract: An automatic machine for processing articles, and having a conveyor which feeds the articles along a path in a given feed direction and has a movable member; and a reading device for determining the position of the movable member; the reading device cooperates with a permanent magnet housed inside the movable member and positioned with its polar axis perpendicular to the feed direction, and has two linear Hall-effect sensors arranged side by side parallel to the feed direction so as to have zero sensitivity in a direction parallel to the feed direction; and the instant in which the movable member is in a definite detection position with respect to the reading device is detected by determining the instant in which the output signal of the Hall-effect sensor downstream with respect to the travelling direction of the movable member inverts.

  • Patent number: 6903315
Abstract: In a method for wrapping an article in a sheet of thermoplastic wrapping material, the temperature of an at least partly metal belt (5) looped and induction heated to seal wrapping material (4) is detected by detecting a first signal (S1) to the voltage (V) applied to the belt (5), and a second signal (S2) related to the current (I) circulating along the belt (5); and by calculating the electric resistance (R) of the belt (5) as a function of the first and second signal (S1, S2); the electric resistance (R) of the belt (5) being related to the temperature (T) of the belt (5).
