  • Patent number: 5151329
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a process for the production of high-gloss patent leather from two-component polyurethane compositions by reacting hydroxyl group-containing oligourethanes with polyisocyanates, characterized in that the oligourethanes have been synthesized fromA) at least 2 macrodiols in a molar ratio of about 1:6 to 6:1 wherein1) the first macrodiol has an average molecular weight of 254 to about 650 and contains an aromatic ring or a saturated or unsaturated cycloaliphatic ring and2) the second macrodiol has an average molecular weight of about 1,200 to 3,000, provided that the molecular weight of macrodiol A/2 is at least 3 times the molecular weight of macrodiol A/1, andB) at least one diisocyanate, wherein the macrodiol:diisocyanate molar ratio is about 1.0:0.9 to 1.0:0.3.The present invention is also directed to the high-gloss patent leather prepared in accordance with the above process.

  • Patent number: 4225695
Abstract: A radiation-hardenable binder consisting of a reaction product of:(A) 1 gramme equivalent of NCO of a polyisocyanate containing 2 to 3 isocyanate groups per molecule,(B) 0 to 0.7 gramme equivalents of OH of a polyol containing at least 2 OH-groups per molecule, free from organically combined sulphur,(C) 0.01 to 0.7 gramme equivalents of OH of a hydroxyalkyl acrylate containing 2 to 6 carbon atoms in the alkyl group characterized in that the reaction product additionally has incorporated therein:(D) 0.01 to 0.3 gramme equivalents of OH of a polyol containing thio or dithio groups or thio and dithio groups, with at least 2 OH-groups per molecule, the sum of the OH gramme equivalents B to D is from 1 to 1.2, and the content of organically combined sulphur, derived from the thio and dithio groups, is from 0.01 to 10% by weight, based on the binder.

  • Patent number: 4207128
Abstract: This invention is concerned with a process for producing microporous coatings comprising (1) mixing an NCO-prepolymer prepared from polyisocyanates with compounds containing at least two isocyanate-reactive hydrogen atoms with about 3 to 40% by weight, based on the NCO-prepolymer, of a substantially inert, non-migrating liquid organic compound miscible with said NCO-prepolymer as a plasticizer; (2) adding about 3 to 300 weight % of water, based on the NCO-prepolymer, into the NCO-prepolymer-plasticizer mixture to form a water-in-oil emulsion; (3) adding a polyamine in a quantity substantially equivalent to the isocyanate groups; (4) applying a coating of the water-in-oil emulsion to a substrate; and (5) hardening the coating by evaporating the chemically unbound water from said coating.

  • Patent number: RE29623
Abstract: Light stable polyurethane coatings with a considerably increased softening range and melting points coupled with improved resistance to perchlorethylene is obtained by using a chain extender comprising at least 80 mol % 1,4-diamino cyclohexane with a cis/transisomer ratio of from 10/90 to 60/40 .Iadd.and by using aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diisocyanates wherein such diisocyanates consist of at least 75 mol percent of 1-isocyanato-3-isocyanatomethyl-3,5,5-trimethyl cyclohexane.Iaddend..
