Publication number: 20240024831Abstract: A system for bone cement includes a vial holder configured for receiving a vial and including a holding structure for maintaining the vial in the vial holder. The vial includes a monomer component for bone cement. A holder chamber is configured to receive and secure the vial holder. The vial holder is advanced toward a vial-breaking device for breaking the vial and releasing its contents into the holder chamber past the elastomeric seal. Once the vial holder is advanced further the elastomeric seal is deformed to form a seal and prevent fumes produced from escaping from the device.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 2, 2023Publication date: January 25, 2024Applicant: MEDTRONIC HOLDING COMPANY SARLInventors: Neil S. Sasaki, Bryan A. Click

Patent number: 9859835Abstract: A cylindrical direct drive AC induction electric motor and an adapter plate comprises an electric power conversion design for liquid fueled vehicles. For front-wheel drive vehicles, an adapter plate replaces the spindle, the motor is bolted to the adapter plate and the vehicle wheel is bolted directly to the lug studs. For rear-wheel drive vehicles, each end of the rear axle is cut off. Using the adapter plate, the motor directly attaches to the end of the “pipe.” Also, a single-piece, trailer type axle could completely replace the axle. For independent rear suspension, the adapter plate bolts in place of the wheel bearing assembly and the wheel is attached to the motor. In all of these cases, the original internal combustion engine, transmission, and all other drive components, along with the exhaust system and fuel tank, are removed to make room for batteries and components of the electric drive system.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 2015Date of Patent: January 2, 2018Inventor: Bryan Click

Patent number: 9655663Abstract: A device for delivering material to multiple surgical target locations includes a pressure reservoir selectably coupled to two or more outlets. Coupling the pressure reservoir to a given one of the outlets and pressurizing the pressure reservoir causes flowable material (e.g., bone filler material) to be dispensed from that outlet. A diverter for selectably coupling the pressure reservoir one of the outlets can be configured to trigger a pressure release valve for the pressure reservoir upon switching, thereby preventing unexpected or uncontrolled material delivery from the new outlet in response to sudden high pressure exposure.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2014Date of Patent: May 23, 2017Assignee: Kyphon SÀRLInventors: Brian W. Donovan, Bryan A. Click

Patent number: 9579138Abstract: An instrument for performing a medical procedure includes a drive shaft, a holding clutch, a drive clutch, and an actuator. The holding clutch only allows advancement of the drive shaft, while the drive clutch transfers an advancement force from the actuator to the drive shaft. The dual clutch system allows a lever to be used as the actuator so that a user can generate large actuation forces manually (and optionally remotely) without significant physical effort. This capability can beneficially improve the usability and effectiveness of percutaneous surgical systems, such as those for vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2015Date of Patent: February 28, 2017Assignee: Kyphon SÀRLInventors: Bryan A. Click, Brian W. Donovan

Patent number: 9545281Abstract: A system for performing a minimally invasive surgical procedure comprises a cannula, a bone filler material delivery nozzle for performing the procedure through the cannula, and a retainer for securing the delivery nozzle relative to the cannula. The retainer eliminates the need to manually stabilize and position the delivery nozzle during the procedure, thereby allowing the physician to perform the procedure outside of the fluoroscopic radiation field used to visualize the procedure location. The retainer can be attached to the cannula, and can provide either selective or constant clamping force onto the delivery nozzle.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 2014Date of Patent: January 17, 2017Assignee: KYPHON SARLInventors: Brian W. Publication number: 20150320470Abstract: A delivery system includes a reservoir for storing pressurized fluid and a piston rod passing through the reservoir and having an end portion with a dimension larger than the piston rod. A sleeve is configured to engage the end portion of the piston rod such that when the piston rod is advanced, the end portion seals an opening in the sleeve. The sleeve and the end portion function as a piston for extracting fluid from a delivery chamber. When the piston rod is retracted, the sleeve engages a portion of the end portion to permit the reservoir to communicate with the delivery chamber through the opening. Methods of use are disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 19, 2015Publication date: November 12, 2015Inventors: Bryan Click, Brian Donovan
