  • Patent number: 12097050
Abstract: Methods and systems for image segmentation and analysis are described. A predictive model may be trained to identify and/or extract a rich set of image features with extensive prognostic value. For example, the predictive model may be trained to identify and/or extract features that that may be visualized to identify areas of interest (e.g., high-risk regions, etc.) within or adjacent to an object of interest, such a tumor. The predictive model may be trained to identify and/or extract features that that may predict a health related outcome, such as cancer patient survival/death, and modify therapeutic outcomes, such as diagnosis and treatment.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 27, 2020
Date of Patent: September 24, 2024
Assignee: UNIVERSITY OF IOWA RESEARCH FOUNDATION
Inventors: Stephen Baek, Yusen He, Xiaodong Wu, Yusung Kim, Bryan G. Allen, John Buatti, Brian J. Smith

  • Publication number: 20210338686
Abstract: A method of treating a cancer in a mammalian subject afflicted with the cancer, consisting essentially of administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a platinum-based anticancer agent, and administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a pentaaza macrocyclic ring complex corresponding to the Formula (I) below, prior to, concomitantly with, or after administration of the platinum-based anticancer agent, whereby response of the cancer to the platinum-based anticancer agent is increased.

  • Patent number: 10617885
Abstract: Systems and methods for low energy radiation x-ray radiation therapy system for use at a target within a cavity of a subject. In an aspect, the system uses an aperture shaping device used to shape the radiation beam from the low energy radiation source. In an aspect, the aperture shaping device includes a plurality of leaf assemblies which include leaves configured to form the aperture and engage the radiation beam. In an aspect, the present invention utilizes a geared mechanics approach to create an aperture using only one dial input. The design ensures that the field size of the collimator remains a constant shape as it is opened and closed. In an aspect, the overall size of the collimator may be scaled to accommodate various radiation therapy requirements.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: April 14, 2020
Assignee: University of Iowa Research Foundation
Inventors: Ryan Flynn, Junyi Xia, Timothy J. Waldron, Yusung Kim, Bryan G. Allen, Brennen N. Wears, Hongtao Ding
  • Patent number: 10052304
Abstract: The invention provides compositions and methods to treat a hyperproliferative disorder with ascorbate or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, at least one chelating agent that enhances ascorbate redox cycling (EDTA) to form H2O2, and one or more anti-cancer therapies.
