Patent number: 8527438Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to producing spike-timing dependent plasticity in an ultra-dense synapse cross-bar array for neuromorphic systems. An aspect of the invention includes when an electronic neuron spikes, an alert pulse is sent from the spiking electronic neuron to each electronic neuron connected to the spiking electronic neuron. When the spiking electronic neuron sends the alert pulse, a gate pulse is sent from the spiking electronic neuron to each electronic neuron connected to the spiking electronic neuron. When each electronic neuron receives the alert pulse, a response pulse is sent from each electronic neuron receiving the alert pulse to the spiking electronic neuron. The response pulse is a function of time since a last spiking of the electronic neuron receiving the alert pulse. In addition, the combination of the gate pulse and response pulse is capable increasing or decreasing conductance of a variable state resistor.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2009Date of Patent: September 3, 2013Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Bryan Lawrence Jackson, Dharmendra Shantilal Modha, Bipin Rajendran

Patent number: 6079834Abstract: An exemplary high-speed moving optical image selection system includes (1) at least one image viewing area or zone, (2) at least one image projection path to direct images onto the image viewing area or zone, (3) an image storage member where a plurality of images are stored, (4) a motor coupled to the image storage member to rotate the image storage member at a high speed of one rotation in less than 1/50 of a second to move the images into the image projection path, (5) at least one light source that has an light emitting interval of generally less than 10 microseconds, (6) operator control buttons to control and select images, and (7) electronic circuitry to monitor positions of images and to actuate the light source when selected images are in the image projection path.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1999Date of Patent: June 27, 2000Inventor: Bryan Lawrence McCoy

Patent number: 4261503Abstract: A box having side walls (10, 12, 14, 16), a first set of panels (20, 22, 24, 26) along the top edges of the side walls and a second set of panels (28, 30, 32, 34) along the bottom edges of the side walls. The first set of panels overlap one another to form a box top and the second set of panels similarly overlap to form a box base. The first set of panels are so shaped that the box top has some areas which are above the level of the remainder of the top. The panels forming the box base also provide areas which are above the level of the remainder of the base. Said areas of the top and base are of the same shape and layout so that when two boxes are stacked, said areas of the top are received in said areas of the base.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1979Date of Patent: April 14, 1981Assignee: Packaging Development Manufacturing (Proprietary) LimitedInventors: Bryan Lawrence, Nigel E. Patent number: 4068794Abstract: A container for perishables such as fruit is disclosed. The container includes a tray having a base panel and upstanding side and end panels. At each end there are locking panels which are parallel to, and spaced inwardly from, the end panels. Between each end panel and the two adjacent locking panels there is a strengthening insert of wood, metal or synthetic plastics material. An end piece of inverted U-shape is provided to hold each composite end wall comprising a strengthening insert, an end panel and two locking panels in its erected condition. The spaced walls of the insert are located one on each side of the composite wall. Tongues (or right angled corner structures) project upwardly from the end pieces. Where tongues are provided, the base panel can have apertures therein for receiving the tongues of a lower container. Where right angled corner structures are provided, an upper container nests within the four structures of a lower container.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1976Date of Patent: January 17, 1978Assignee: The Deciduous Fruit BoardInventor: Bryan Lawrence
