  • Publication number: 20060276192
Abstract: In a telecommunications network in which a mobile handset is capable of communicating in both an IP-domain and a non-IP domain, the handoff of an existing communications session between the mobile handset and a fixed user is facilitated by a handoff controller implemented in a service control point. The handoff controller implements different handoff methods depending on the status of the fixed user and the transition of the mobile user. Additionally 802.21 Media Independent Handover Function in conjunction with SIP is used to facilitate handover between IP and Non-IP points in the system.

  • Patent number: 6880093
Abstract: A communication device for exchanging communication between user devices and a communication network reduces power consumption after detecting a low power condition. The communication device advantageously operates during a power outage when a power supply for the communication device fails. The communication device includes a network interface, a power control circuitry, and a processor. The network interface exchanges digital communication signals with the communication network. The power control circuitry detects a low power condition. The power control circuitry then generates a power control signal in response to the low power condition. The processor exchanges first communication signals between the network interface and an analog telephone interface or a digital computer interface. The processor receives and processes the power control signal to lower power consumption of the communication device.

  • Publication number: 20030214103
Abstract: One handheld radio controlled transmitter communicates with an electrical circuit board on each skate. The electrical circuit controls one battery powered dc motor linear actuator driven hydraulic pump. The hydraulic pressure created from the hydraulic pump is directly related to how much electrical current is consumed by the dc motor. The electrical current is monitored and the dc motor will move forward creating hydraulic pressure or move in reverse removing pressure. The hydraulic pressure depends on how far down or up the transmitter button is pressed. The hydraulic pump is connected to a lead screw and master piston. The hydraulic fluid travels from the master cylinder through tubing to a pair of slave cylinders on each wheel. The slave cylinders press against the disc brake pads, which press against the in-line wheel hub when the skater needs to slow or stop.

  • Patent number: 6563829
Abstract: A method in accordance with the invention allocates bandwidth, fairly and dynamically, in a shared-media packet switched network to accommodate both elastic and inelastic applications. The method, executed by or in a head-end controller, allocates bandwidth transmission slots, converting requests for bandwidth into virtual scheduling times for granting access to the shared media. The method can use a weighted fair queuing algorithm or a virtual clock algorithm to generate a sequence of upstream slot/transmission assignment grants. The method supports multiple quality of service (QoS) classes via mechanisms which give highest priority to the service class with the most stringent QoS requirements.

  • Patent number: 5926459
Abstract: Rate shaping is provided in per-flow queued routing mechanisms for available bit rate service. A traffic shaper in a packet switched communications system serially emits packets of time multiplexed flows in substantial compliance with individual network traffic contracts for the respective flows. The individual network traffic contracts include contracts which specify respective peak packet emission rates and associated peak rate tolerances for certain of the flows and which cause each of the flows to fall into mutually exclusive categories. The traffic shaper includes a queuing mechanism and a scheduling mechanism. The queuing mechanism organizes pending packets of active flows, including the certain flows, in respective queues in accordance with an oldest pending packet at head of queue order. The scheduling mechanism is coupled to the queuing mechanism for scheduling the packets of the active flows for emission.
