Publication number: 20140138587Abstract: In some embodiments, the present disclosure pertains to methods of forming cross-linked carbon materials by: (a) associating a sulfur source with carbon materials, where the sulfur source comprises sulfur atoms; and (b) initiating a chemical reaction, where the chemical reaction leads to the formation of covalent linkages between the carbon materials. In some embodiments, the covalent linkages between the carbon materials comprise covalent bonds between sulfur atoms of the sulfur source and carbon atoms of the carbon materials. In some embodiments, the chemical reactions occur in the absence of solvents while carbon materials are immobilized in solid state. In some embodiments, the carbon materials include carbon nanotube fibers. In some embodiments, the methods of the present disclosure also include a step of doping carbon materials with a dopant, such as iodine. Further embodiments of the present disclosure pertain to cross-linked carbon materials formed in accordance with the above methods.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 8, 2013Publication date: May 22, 2014Applicant: William Marsh Rice UniversityInventors: Matteo Pasquali, Bryan Thomas Whiting

Publication number: 20110101742Abstract: An all weather sunshade system for infant carriers includes a main sunshade that is pivotally attached to the infant carrier and an integrally provided sunshade extension. The main sunshade is selectively deployable and includes curved semi-rigid members which support a fabric material and includes a front edge. A rear edge of the sunshade extension is secured along the front edge of the main sunshade structure and is sized and shaped so that it may be selectively drawn forward, when the main sunshade is fully deployed, and secured around a front portion of the infant carrier. In doing so, the sunshade extension remains taut following the contours defined by the shape of the front edge of the main sunshade and the perimeter shape of the front edge of the infant carrier.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 27, 2010Publication date: May 5, 2011Inventors: Joseph HEI, Hoi Ning WONG, Bryan Thomas WHITE

Publication number: 20110074195Abstract: A child restraint system for use in vehicles comprises a seat portion and a base. The base secures the child restraint system to a vehicle seat with a vehicle restraint such as a seat belt or a LATCH system. The base both engages the vehicle restraint and includes a force-multiplying mechanism for tensioning the vehicle restraint. Tensioning the vehicle restraint secures the base by forcing the base against the vehicle seat. An embodiment of the base includes a platform configured to rest on the vehicle seat, an upright member joined to the platform, and a tensioning device, including a force-multiplying mechanism, for tensioning the vehicle restraint.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 23, 2010Publication date: March 31, 2011Applicant: Orbit Baby, Inc.Inventors: Joseph HEI, Bryan Thomas White
