    Abstract: The composition includes an antimicrobial monomer represented by formula CH2?C(R1)—C(O)—O-Q-N+(R)2CnH2n+1(X—), a non-fluorinated crosslinking monomer having at least two acrylate groups, methacrylate groups, or a combination thereof, a polar monomer having at least one of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, or a carboxylate salt thereof, and a nonpolar monomer represented by formula CH2?C(R1)—C(O)—O—R2. The antimicrobial monomer, the non-fluorinated crosslinking monomer, the polar monomer, and the nonpolar monomer together account for greater than 95 percent by weight, based on the total weight of the composition. The article includes a film having a plurality of pendent groups represented by formula —C(O)—O-Q-N+(R)2CnH2n+1(X—) covalently bonded in a crosslinked non-fluorinated acrylic network. A method of making an article is also described.

    Abstract: A method of making surface-functionalized transition metal oxide nanoparticles comprises: providing a sol comprising transition metal oxide nanoparticles dispersed in an aqueous liquid medium having a pH of less than or equal to 3.5, combining the sol with an extractant composition comprising at least one carboxylic acid and at least one organic amine, and a water-immiscible organic solvent, and separating at least a portion of the organic phase from the aqueous phase and then at least partially removing the water-immiscible organic solvent. The carboxylic acid has from 6 to 30 atoms. The organic amine is represented by the formula R2R3NH, wherein R2 is a hydrocarbyl group having from 6 to 30 carbon atoms, and R3 is H or an alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms. The at least one organic amine is present in an amount sufficient raise the pH to at least 5, thereby forming discrete separable aqueous and organic phases.

For each angle of incidence in an incident angle range of 0-50 degrees, an optical transmittance of each of the optical film and the plurality of second layers versus wavelength includes a band edge disposed in a transition wavelength range separating a visible wavelength range where the optical film and the plurality of second layers have respective average optical transmittances Tv and Tv2 from an infrared wavelength range where the optical film and the plurality of second layers have respective average optical transmittances Ti and Ti2. Each of Tv and Tv2 is greater than about 30%. An average value of Tv2 is greater than an average value of Tv by at least 5%.     Abstract: The present disclosure provides an article including a layer having a nanostructured first surface including nanofeatures and an opposing second surface, and an organic layer including a major surface attached to a portion of the nanofeatures. The nanostructured first surface includes protruding features that are formed of a single composition and/or recessed features. The nanofeatures and the major surface of the second layer together define at least one void. The present disclosure also provides a method of making the article including contacting nanofeatures of a layer having a nanostructured surface with a major surface of an organic layer and reacting at least one material to secure the two layers together. In addition, the present disclosure provides an optical information display and an OLED device including the article. The nanostructured surface of the article is protected from damage and contamination by the organic layer.
