  • Patent number: 7505692
Abstract: An optical system that includes an analog laser transmitter having a burst operative mode is disclosed. The system further includes a power controller that is configured to place the analog laser transmitter in the burst operative mode when a digital enable signal is provided to the power controller. The power controller comprises a reference voltage source, a ground node, and an input selector switch that is configured to select the reference voltage source when the digital enable signal is asserted, and alternatively, to select the ground node when the digital enable signal is de-asserted.

  • Publication number: 20090052908
Abstract: In an example embodiment, an optical system includes an analog laser transmitter having a burst operative mode. The system may include enable logic configured to provide a digital enable signal in response to receiving a trigger signal other than a reverse electrical signal. The system may further include a power controller circuit coupled to the transmitter and enable logic and configured to turn on the analog transmitter when the enable signal is asserted and turn off the analog transmitter when the enable signal is de-asserted. An example method embodiment may include providing an analog signal to the analog laser transmitter and providing a trigger signal to the enable logic to provide a digital enable signal in response to receiving the trigger signal and turning on the analog laser transmitter when the enable signal is asserted, and turning off the analog laser transmitter when the enable signal is de-asserted.

  • Patent number: 7157664
Abstract: A heated laser assembly for maintaining a set point temperature of a laser. A common transistor external to the laser is positioned in thermal proximity to the laser. A thermal transfer member is positioned in thermal contact between the laser and the transistor. The transistor heats the thermal transfer member, and thus heats the laser, when the ambient temperature drops below a set point temperature. Therefore, the overall temperature range the laser must operate over is reduce through the use of a common transistor.

  • Publication number: 20060237436
Abstract: A system and method for maintaining a set point temperature of a laser. The required operating temperature range of laser may be reduced by determining whether to increase or decrease the amount of heating to the laser. A controller compares the desired set point temperature with a measured temperature which is provided as feedback to produce an output voltage. A heater transistor is driven by the output voltage of the controller which is proportional to the amount of heat to be generated by the transistor in order to maintain the laser at the desired set point temperature.

  • Publication number: 20060045529
Abstract: An optical system that includes an analog laser transmitter having a burst operative mode is disclosed. The system further includes a power controller that is configured to place the analog laser transmitter in the burst operative mode when a digital enable signal is provided to the power controller. The power controller comprises a reference voltage source, a ground node, and an input selector switch that is configured to select the reference voltage source when the digital enable signal is asserted, and alternatively, to select the ground node when the digital enable signal is de-asserted. In a second exemplary embodiment, a method of operating an analog laser transmitter is disclosed. The method comprises providing an analog signal to the analog laser transmitter, and a digital enable signal to a controller circuit that is coupled to the analog laser transmitter.
