  • Publication number: 20240217331
Abstract: A compact P2 hybrid module for connecting an internal combustion engine to a transmission of a vehicle. The P2 module includes an input shaft, an electric motor having a stator and a rotor, a torque converter having a front cover and a rear cover. The torque converter further including an impeller and a turbine coupled to one another so as to form a hydrodynamic circuit, and the turbine being further coupled to an output member of the torque converter. The front cover of the torque converter being rotationally fixed with the rotor of the electric motor. An electric connect/disconnect friction clutch assembly having first and second sets of friction plates. The first and second sets of friction plates being rotationally lockable with one another during engagement of the electric connect/disconnect friction clutch assembly. An electro-mechanical controllable clutch assembly having an input member and an output member.

  • Patent number: 11919401
Abstract: A device for power transmission within a hybrid motor vehicle and a method of operating the device. The device is a P2 module and includes a torque converter, an electric motor, a connect/disconnect clutch and a one-way clutch. The torque converter is configured to be coupled to an input member of the transmission. The electric motor includes a rotor that is fixedly connected to the input of the torque converter. The connect/disconnect clutch has an input member configured to be coupled to the output of the engine and has first and second clutch members moveable between a disengaged and engaged positons. The second clutch member is also fixedly connected to the torque converter. The one-way clutch is coupled between the connect/disconnect clutch and the torque converter and has a locked up configuration and an overrunning configuration.

  • Patent number: 10138955
Abstract: A clutch for an automatic transmission includes a tubular housing surrounding a clutch pack and having an end for engaging with a pressure plate. An annular separator spring on the end provides a biasing force against the pressure plate. A plurality of depressible pins are disposed in the housing and are located radially outward from the annular spring for inhibiting radial movement of the separator spring.

  • Patent number: 9657783
Abstract: A clutch module for a dual clutch transmission (DCT) is designed to improve circumferential fluid distribution to reduce or eliminate an unpleasant noise during engagement. In some embodiments, the reaction plate is restrained in a position offset 1-3 degrees from perpendicular to the housing axis. Consequently, 0.2-0.7 mm of clearance remains on one radial side of the clutch when all clearance has been removed on the other radial side of the clutch. Relative rotation between the hub and the housing pushes fluid from the tight side toward the loose side. In an alternative embodiment, the piston is designed to orient the pressure plate non-perpendicular to the housing axis.

  • Patent number: 6098004
Abstract: In an automotive transmission, a method for determining whether an upshift should be enabled or disabled determines the predetermined upshift vehicle speed at which the upshift is scheduled to occur with reference to current throttle position and vehicle speed. The method employs the difference between upshift vehicle speed and current vehicle speed, the current vehicle acceleration, an empirically determined upshift vehicle acceleration referenced to current vehicle speed and the speed difference. If the current vehicle acceleration is equal to or greater than upshift vehicle acceleration, the upshift is enabled; otherwise, the scheduled upshift is disabled.

  • Patent number: 5957255
Abstract: A method for determining whether the torque converter bypass clutch of an automotive transmission should be relocked or a relock should be prevented includes maintaining in a delay counter the number of such relocks that occur, continuously determining in a counter decrement timer the length of the period since the last relock occurred, determining the output of a timer for decrementing the count of the delay counter, decrementing the count of the delay counter and clearing the counter decrement timer provided the period of the counter decrement timer is greater than the output of the timer for decrementing the count of the delay counter.
