In particular, the present invention relates to a process for the production of linear alpha-olefins (LAO's) in which Fischer Tropsch (FT)-derived liquids are autothermally cracked to produce linear alpha-olefins or an LAO-containing feed is autothermally cracked to produce a product LAO with a lower number of carbon atoms than the LAO's fed to the process.
