Abstract: An electronic device and method for updating authentication information in the electronic device is provided. The electronic device includes a short-range communication unit configured to provide a short-range communication and a controller configured to update information for authentication information from advertisement service information received from an Access Point (AP) identified through the short-range communication unit, download authentication information using the update information for authentication information, and connect the electronic device to the AP based on the authentication information.

Abstract: A method of operating a device as an Access Point (AP) is provided. The method includes using a first communication method, broadcasting a packet including communication connecting information with regard to a second communication method, establishing a first communication link using the first communication method after receiving a connection request with regard to the first communication method from another device receiving the packet, establishing a second communication link using the second communication method after receiving a connection request with regard to the second communication method from the other device, operating the device as the AP by using the second communication link, and receiving a request with regard to an operation of the AP from the other device via the first communication link.

Abstract: A method for using legacy Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Peer-to-Peer (P2P) simultaneously is provided. The method includes entering a device discovery process of Wi-Fi P2P, if use of a Wi-Fi P2P function is requested while using a legacy Wi-Fi function, acquiring a Group Owner (GO) right of Wi-Fi P2P in the device discovery process, performing a listen state over the same channel as a channel where the legacy Wi-Fi function is in use, through the acquisition of the GO right, and performing a search state over a social channel of Wi-Fi P2P, and repeating the listen state and the search state until the device discovery process is ended.

The method includes determining, by the electronic device, a position estimation point according to state information of the electronic device. Further, the method includes transmitting a position estimation request message to an Access Point (AP) at the determined position estimation point with a wireless Local Area Network (LAN) connection not being performed, and receiving position information of the electronic device from the AP.

Abstract: A method for connecting to a network in an electronic device is provided. The method includes generating a list of Access Points (APs) to which the electronic device fails to connect upon AP connection, when APs are scanned, classifying the scanned APs into a first group and a second group based on the list, and omitting performance of a discovery operation with an AP of the second group and performing the discovery operation with an AP of the first group, wherein the first group is a group of APs which are not included in the list.

Abstract: An apparatus for providing a wireless communication in a portable terminal includes a wireless communication unit and a controller which verifies basic service set identifications (BSSIDs) of access points when roaming between access points is completed, verifies whether an internet protocol (IP) address is assigned based on a wireless communication network list and the verified BSSIDs, and performs a wireless communication by using an IP address which is in use according to a verification result, wherein the wireless communication network list is a list which classifies a plurality of access points according to the same dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) by using BSSIDs of the plurality of access points connected to the portable terminal.

Abstract: A Wi-Fi direct communication system and method are used for regenerating a group of an electronic device in the Wi-Fi direct communication system, and an operation mode is determined in information of an obtained profile. When the operation mode is a group owner mode, the electronic device is set to an automatic group owner. At least one device included in the profile information is retrieved, and the retrieved device is invited to the group. When the invitation is completed, the group regeneration is completed.
