  • Publication number: 20170280274
Abstract: The positions and relative locations of electronic devices located within an electronic equipment rack can be determined and mapped through the reading, by a mobile device, of near field communication (NFC) tags attached to the electronic devices. The mobile device can execute a method that includes reading and recording data values from sets of nearby NFC tags in conjunction with locations of the mobile device relative to a reference location. The method executed by the mobile device can include an algorithm to determine the absolute and relative positions of the electronic devices through processing of the inclusion or exclusion of NFC tag data within the sets of read NFC tag values. The absolute and relative positions of the electronic devices can be subsequently used to create a map depicting the position of the electronic devices within the electronic equipment rack.

  • Patent number: 9739685
Abstract: Predictive monitoring of a rotational machine of a cooling apparatus is provided by integrating a predictive vibration analyzer into an electronics rack being cooled by the cooling apparatus. The integrating includes associating at least one sensor of the predictive vibration analyzer with the rotational machine of the cooling apparatus. The analyzer includes a predetermined harmonics table of one or more base operational frequencies and associated rotational speed harmonics for the rotational machine indicative of one or more rotational faults, and the predictive vibration analyzer automatically evaluates vibration of the rotational machine during operation of the machine by analyzing vibration data therefor, and automatically ascertains, based on the vibration data, and the predetermined harmonics table, whether the rotational machine is predicted to possess a rotational fault of the one or more rotational faults.

  • Publication number: 20170168776
Abstract: Embodiments include method, systems and computer program products for extracting entropy from mobile devices to generate random numbers. In some embodiments, first vibration data may be received from a first device. Second vibration data may be received from a second device. A first piece of entropy data may be generated using the first vibration data and a second piece of entropy data may be generated using the second vibration data. The first piece of entropy data and the second piece of entropy data may be aggregated. The first piece of entropy data and the second piece of entropy data may be stored in an entropy pool.

  • Patent number: 9454346
Abstract: Generating a pool of random numbers for use by computer applications. Vibration sensors are placed throughout a machine and collect entropy data from the measurements of the vibration sensors. The data is then filtered and sent via secure connection to a second machine to be added to the second machine's entropy pool. Applications needing a random number may acquire a number from the pool. A method, computer program product and system to generate the pool are provided.

  • Patent number: 9043657
Abstract: A method to prevent failure on a server computer due to internally and/or externally induced shock and/or vibration. The method includes acquiring, by at least one sensor, analog acceleration data of components in a server computer. The data is then converted to digital format and stored within a motor drive assembly processor memory unit. The processor analyzes the stored data for existence of machine degradation. In response to detecting the existence of machine degradation, the motor drive assembly processor initiates remediation procedures. The remediation procedures include controlling rotating speed of moving devices or performing a complete system shut down.
