  • Publication number: 20020175536
Abstract: A convertible roof (2) of a convertible motor vehicle with at least one front roof part which is movably supported on the body by a bearing (8), and a rear roof part (13) which can be moved over the front roof part (5) and can be lowered with it into a rear stowage space (3). An especially simple structure can be achieved when the rear roof part (13) on the front side can be moved over the front roof part (5) by a raising mechanism (27) which is movably supported on a lengthwise guide (32) which is located on the front roof part (5). A carriage (31) can be guided on the lengthwise guide (32) of the front roof part (5) and the raising lever (28) of the raising mechanism, which lever is pivotally connected to the rear roof part (13), is supported on the carriage to be able to pivot and to be moved by the raising mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6425630
Abstract: A guide rail assembly for guiding drive elements and guide elements of an openable roof part of a motor vehicle, the guide rail assembly including a guide rail of metal with a cut edge on an end of the guide rail, and a protective cap on the end of the guide rail. The protective cap covers the cut edge of the end and has an inside wall which flushes aligns with an inside wall of the guide rail to thereby provide a flush and continuous surface. The protective cap is preferably made of plastic and plugged onto the end of the guide rail. The protective cap preferably includes a locking mechanism and an inwardly pointing face. The protective cap also includes insertion bevels which extends to an outwardly pointing face the protective cap and may further include an integrally molded a centering journal. In another embodiment, the guide rail may also include a lengthwise crosspiece, and the protective cap includes a corresponding extension.

  • Patent number: 5484185
Abstract: Vehicle roof with plates to close or open a roof opening, in which the plates, in the closed position, form a panel of plates, and they are guided at each lateral side of the roof on two guides along guide devices fixed to the roof, so that the panel of plates, by pivoting individual plates, is released plate by plate when the roof is being opened or is restored when closing the roof. Slidable bearing units are provided along a common guide track in which, in each case, the rear guide of one of the plates and the forward guide of the next plate are supported and which thus, by the plates themselves or by plate carders, are interlocked with one another.

  • Patent number: 5421635
Abstract: Vehicle roof with a series of plates for selectively closing and at least partially opening a roof opening in a fixed roof surface. The plates abut one another in the closed position and form a flat interlocking system of plates within which each plate is guided on each side on two guide points, that are spaced from each other in a sliding direction, along a guiding device that is connected with the fixed roof surface so that, when the plates are displaced, the flat interlocking system of plates performs a translatory movement during which the interlocking system is separated in a plate-by-plate manner when the roof is opened and is reestablished when the roof is closed. At least the forward guide points of the plates interact with the same guideway, and both guide points of the plates are maintained in engagement with the guiding devices over their entire path of displacement.

  • Patent number: 5362122
Abstract: Vehicle roof with at least one cover part, which is adjustable between a closed position, in which the cover closes a roof opening and is at least approximately flush with the contour of the stationary roof panel, and an open position, in which the cover is brought into a position rising obliquely toward the rear by swinging around an axis of rotation lying near its front edge and is moved rearwardly with reference to the closed position over a rear portion of the stationary roof panel. The cover pan moved toward the rear from the closed position is guided on a roof rail in the area of its rear end.

  • Patent number: 5335961
Abstract: A vehicle roof for closing an aperture in a fixed roof surface comprising a series of strip-like plates. In closing the roof, the plates lie edge to edge to form a flat sheet. The plates are mounted on guide tracks in a roof frame fixed beneath the roof surface around the aperture. Each plate is carried on the guide tracks at two locations, and the plates can be moved rearwards and tilted. In the roof open position, the plates are pivoted upward and lie substantially parallel to one another. The pivoting takes place towards the rear of the aperture as each plate is completing its rearward movement. The plates remain engaged with both guide track locations at all times and this ensures the stability of the assembly. In each case, a drip molding is hinged at least on a part of the plates. The drip moldings are guided to slide along lengthwise guideways, and they take part only in the sliding movements of the respective plates, not their pivoting.

  • Patent number: 5248278
Abstract: Ventilator roof for use in motor vehicles with a roof opening in a fixed roof surface which can be closed by a cover. The cover can be swung by pivoting around a pivoting axis, at, or near its rear edge, into a ventilation position in which the cover front edge is below the roof surface, while the cover rear edge is kept at the height of the roof surface, and a ventilation gap is formed between the cover front edge and the front edge of the roof opening. At least one electrically powered blower is built into a ventilation channel leading from the ventilation gap into the vehicle interior. The blower can be powered by solar cells or the on-board vehicle power unit (battery) with safeguards to prevent use when the vehicle power unit lacks sufficient charge. In some embodiments, arrangements are also provided to enable the blower to provide ventilation of the interior space of the vehicle even when the cover is closed.

  • Patent number: 4998771
Abstract: A vehicle roof with a two-part cover that has a front and a rear cover part which, in a closed position, together close a roof opening made in a stationary roof skin. The rear cover part can be slid rearward along longitudinal guide mechanisms running on both sides of the roof opening into an open position that at least partially opens the roof opening. The front cover part can be pivoted relative to the rear cover part into a ventilation position. In the ventilation position, the front edge of the front cover part is lowered under the stationary roof skin, forming a ventilation gap lying in the area of the front edge of the roof opening, while the rear edge of the front cover part is kept at least approximately at the height of the front edge of the rear cover part.

  • Patent number: 4746165
Abstract: Vehicle roof with an operating device of the type having a cover arrangement with at least one cover which, from a position in which it closes a roof opening, can be swung into a raised position from which it can then be slid back. On both sides of the roof opening are fastened guide rails in each of which a first slider and a second slider connected to a drive device are guided in a sliding manner. The cover is supported on the first slider in a swinging manner. The second slider is connected by a lifting device to a raising lever which is pivotally connected to the first slider at one end and is pivotally connected to the cover at an opposite end. A locking device prevents the cover from sliding in relation to the guide rails during swinging between the closed position and the raised position.
